I see. All things given, it wouldn't be that hard to "compensate" for most of the differences. Electric fan on intercooler opening, functional ram air hood or similar, 2pc alum driveshafts, headers and/or non restrictive dual exhaust, R9 program (i think) from that micro tuner...etc. The biggest difference being the weight.

600 lbs is alot of weight. LoL! Others have done it though. we've got 3 members here in the mid-high 12's with their 02HD's though
2pc alum driveshafts
A friend of mine is the service manager at a local auto shop and a serious gear head, we were talking the other day about different mods & such to look at and one was the drive shaft.
He had no direct experience or proof, and acknowledged such, but said there may be some undesirable twist in a one-peice aluminum drive shaft for these trucks because of the length. He said he knew they were available but would think twice before doing one.
Anyone do this yet or know anyone that has done this mod? Any problems?

I had a 1 pc. alum driveshafts made for my old truck (1 ton dually 4x4) it kept ripping out the hangar bearings. It was pretty inexpensive and worked awesome. It had a 454 pushing 500+ hp and 600ftlbs....yes it was a bowtie....but it was anything but civilized.
I heard from a guy in an email who did a carbon fiber driveshaft on their 02. Didn't get a chance to test it out yet, but i'll see if he's going to post info on this mod, or keep it a secret.
on a sidenote, treadwheeler, can you check out this thread?

Here is what I remember from my school days: When you apply torque to something (transmission shaft is perfect example) three factors will come into play: 1) size of material in plane you are applying torque (diameter of shaft in this case), 2) distance between point in which you are applying force and point in which material is secured (longer it is worse it will get), and 3) how material handles such kinds of forces. Increasing (2) (going for 1 piece drive shaft in this example) while (1) and (3) remain unchanged will cause material to fail sooner. Also, if it that piece is rotating it will introduce stronger vibrations. Therefore, it is my feeling Ford had VERY good reason for making it 2-piece and I personally would not mess with it.

I have spent years building 4wd trucks and can tell you that a 2 piece driveshaft is as strong as you can get with a heavy duty
carrier bearing. Most of the F250/350 with a good chip, exhaust and intake system on the power stroke diesel will put out over 700 ft lbs of torque. This quite a bit more than a hot lightning/harley. There are many companys that will make you any driveshaft that you want. The problem with using single shafts is that the have lenth restrictions, but that is not a problem on our trucks. I can recommend a company called highangledriveshaft.com. He can make you anything you want and will not over sell you on a driveshaft. I have not heard of any trucks using carbon fiiber, but I think it would be heavy in order to make it stronger.
