Stealthbox arrived

I had no idea the amount of hacking up the console was needed. There is no way you put this back stock (besides just closing the lid and hoping the dealer doesn't open it). I have it mounted in place of the console and some of the console hacking done. I hooked the box up to my JL amp and it does sound great. I REALLY need to replace the factory door speakers. Playing with the sub crossover reveals the factory speakers have a sharp downward slope after 150hz or so. Blah..

The mod spiral continues. "the sub made me get the new speakers. The new speakers made me get the new stereo. The new stereo made me get the DVD player. . ." You get the idea. That seems to be the problem I am having.

I do have a question: What size sub was in that box again (12" W3 or 10" W1)? I remember reading it somewhere, but I don't remember right now. Also, what amp are you using? Is it dedicated?

I plan on doing a stealth sub as well, but I need to think about which amp to use for it.

The HD 02 stealthbox has 1 12w3v2. I have a dedicated JL 250/1 mono amp on it. Sounds pretty good. I'm planning on a JL 300/2 for some front speakers at some point. I have some pics, I need to put them up.

please do. . .

Sorry to keep bothering you, but how much was the JL amp? I have a stealthbox on it's way right now and I am shopping around for the best amp to power it.

Is that amp for the sub alone, or are you going to power your front speakers with it as well (when you get them)?

Unhappy

Sad to hear that the stealthbox involves a lot of cutting on the console. I was counting on buying one for bass, but do not want to cut on the that truck much.

Hmmmm....maybe the Blackwood's active sub enclosure now instead?

The inside-of-console subboxes retail for about $499, but you have to cut up the inside structure of the console (I haven't done this myself, but I did remove my console completely and it comes apart in like 4-5 pieces) There is a lot more stuff in there than people realize.

I have opted for an in-seat subbox. The seat is actually made by JL for use as part of the bench seat in the Dodge Rams. I did some measuring at a dealer and found that it should fit right inbetween the seats. Now I can have a third seat in back as well as the 12" sub I want. I plan on keeping the rear console so I can go back to stock if I want (no cutting required). This isn't going to be a "drop in" mod though. It is going to take some custom stuff to get it looking nice and everything. It retails for $499 as well, I got it for $475 (every penny counts). It is supposed to be here Friday, when I start to put it in, I will post pics.

Please send pics & details - I did the JL stealthbox in the rear console and am now kicking myself for not exploring the options further. I don't often need to take all three kids (that’s what the wife’s mini-van is for!) though it would be nice to be able to do so when needed or wanted!
Does anyone know if the JL boxes can be ordered w/o the sub itself - If the dodge rear seat box works when you install I would like to use the sub out of my stealthbox?

I paid $339 for the amp locally, I believe retail was $399. I got the stealthbox for $459 locally also, retail is $549.

I don't believe JL makes stealthboxes without the sub.

4WL - The JL 250/1 is a mono 1 channel amp. It is meant only for subs. I will add their 300/2 later to power the front speakers and probably the back speakers. I'll work a resistor onto the back speakers to lower their volume level a little so my sound stage stays up front. The 250/1 and 300/2 are exactly the same size and will look real nice together.

JL also has a 5 channel amp that you might give a look.

4WL Hogg--Please send me info (pics would be great!) on the rear 'seat box' to slingshot@ipninet.com. I too have 3 kids and occasionally need a 3rd rear seat... and want a sub enclose and better sound. This sounds very interesting.

sounds like a new mod trend coming on here. putting in dodge rear seats. LoL
but it should look really good if you get it reupholstered in the same leather color combo as the front seats, and then take the emblem off the old rear seats and have them sewn onto the new seat backs. that would look pretty cool. you definately have to post pics

Harley-

I THINK he's saying that he'll remove only the console, and replace it with the sub enclosure and single seat back from the center section of the Dodge... The enclosure requires you to upholster it (with leather of course). Then just RE-upholster the seat back with leather too...

Here's a pic of the enclosure...

Since it's in the middle, it won't matter much if it doesn't match the other seats identically...

Much like the center portion of the Lighting Seats doesn't match the buckets...

Now imagine that between the Harley leather seats, with black leather...! I wonder if the upholstery shop could use the leather from the console cover on the seating surface of the center seatback?

Thank you LightningDammit, those illustrations showed what my thought process was exactly.

As far as upholstering goes, I would like to match the colors of the seats as best as possible. If I have to I might just go with one solid color (black). I do want to have the flames from the consoles copied onto the the seat with embrodery (or another layer of sewn leather.

As far as the back of the seat goes, I plan on making my own fold down console that is in most trucks. My passengers complained about not having anything to put their arms on while I have had the rear console out. I want to use the hinges on the subbox made for a console to either order or make a console that uses the lid from the stock console (I might be ording that from Dodge). That way, it can fold down when people need an arm rest, and fold up when someone needs a seat.

I also need a place to keep the remotes for my Xbox DVD player and my LCD screen.
