Question A little help...

I am a proud new owner of a '02 HD and I've got the bug bad!! I'm ready to spend a little cash but not sure where to start. From what I read for appearance I should go with Belltech shackles, lower billet grill and lightning tails. Performance, #6 lower pulley, Diablo or superchip and a cold air system.

I've had a hard time locating the Innovation grill and also the best place to purchase Belltech parts...any help would be appreciated!

Thanks.

Welcome! And congratulations on your new truck.

It seems that you already know what you want, just needing the places to get them.

For the lower grille its http://www.j-jent.com
Any major tuner carries some brand of drop shackles

Hey BillP...what's the stock airbox mod? How tough is it to do?

I also read another post on here about the fog light mod...except the guy spliced in a couple wires and mounted a toggle switch under his steering wheel. Which mod do you have and what's your opinion on the two?

i mounted the switch under the dash and spliced the wires. You have to splice the wires no matter what, but you can either file the switch down (and i didn't wanna risk screwing it up and paying 75 bucks for a new one) or throw in a toggle switch in the splice. do a search for foglight mod in the HD forum and you'll find plenty of info on that.
same goes for the airbox mod. a seach should come up wtih a lot of stuff. basically you cut a hole in the bottom of your airbox and put in a K&N panel filter so it can breath easier. I think most gained about a pound of boost with it.

let the modding begin

Good luck, SlyClive. You should find them with little problem. Let me know if you don't. I can probably dig them up for you.

I splice my wires together (either 5 and 12 or 7 and 12 don't remember...Check the thread) but did not file the switch. My fogs come on with parklamps and low/highbeam. Harley's mod is a step up with the toggle switch.

The Airbox mod is just a hole cut in the bottom of the box to allow more air in. Also a good idea to change the stock filter out to a K&N.

its #5 and #12. you can just splice them together, but then your fogs will be on all the time. you can't shut them off unless all your lights are off. with the toggle switch, when its flipped down, the fogs come on whenever the lights are on (fogs or heads), and flipped up, the fogs work as if they were stock (have to pull the **** for them to turn on) completely stock.
good luck

Is it worth the money to get a cold air system or will I get similar gains by making the mod to the stock system.

So...if I want the fogs to come on at any setting I can just splice the #5 and #12 wires and that's it? I don't have to file the switch? Is there any drawback to this?

As far as cold air induction, you will probably get a little more horse than from the stock air box mod.

Not sure about the DJM shackles. I would assume they would be the same. I have BellTechs.

i think its worth the money. JL has a really nice setup you may want to check them out. they are a supporting vendor here.

yup, the only drawback is you can't ever shut them off if any of your other lights are on. no big deal, but i wanted to be able to, but if it doesn't bother ya then, yeah, that will work. the wires are numbered on the back of the wiring harness so its easy to tell which wire is which. i think its yellow and brown, but not totally sure.

I only know of one guy who is using the DJM shackes and its on a L. Just about everybody here uses belltech. i heard some bad stuff about djm a while back on here, not sure if its true, but i got the belltechs just to be safe. they are only 50 bucks at lightningforceperformance.com

As far as the fog mod...HD356 is exactly right.

That is how I did mine and it really is no problem for me. I want them on all the time with my lights anyway so this was perfect for me.

Adding a spliced in toggle switch like HD356 really is not much more effort. It does provide a little more flexibility.

Can't you just file it so you will be able to pull it out on auto and if you want you can push it back in? What does the splicing have to do with it? Thanks
