chesterc,

Thanks for asking, issue with starting is not resolved yet and unfortunately my truck is turning from bad to worse (long story, check my thread named 'Lemon' in this forum). Once I get my truck back from service on all the paint issues I will shortly afterward take it to different service for another try with starting problem.

Thanks again!

W1,

Nope, that's not it. It was always warmed up. Sometimes I would drive this truck over an hour and 15 minutes later it would have this problem.

Thanks for suggestion though, it was worth a shot.

LightningDammit,

It is NOT related to how long truck was running prior to shutdown.

Thank for trying to help me out!

Hey Best Source, nice to see you again!

Nope, thats not it. Thats one of first things I suspected and I paid very good attention to it. Besides, thats the way I always start all of my vehicles.

Switching completely from Chevron to Union 76 helped me somwhat, BUT not completely.

Thanks for trying to help me and keeping in touch. I will keep you posted as soon as I have something new to report (last 2 weeks my truck was in shop for paint issues).

Thanks for the follow-up ZoranC!

I'm using Valero 91 and previous to that it was Shell and Union 76. I will be observing this really good from now on. I'll keep you updated.

Another thing, do you have a remote start on your truck? When I try to start my truck remotely, after sitting at the garage for 4 days, first try won't start it. But the second start always does?

Anybody else has this experience?

ZoranC,
I looked at the "BlueOvalNews" site and found this..."Having trouble with your Ford or Lincoln-Mercury? Go direct to the source and call your regional representative!"

http://www.bonforums.com/contacts/contacts_fordreps.htm

It lists reps for Los Angeles. Hope this helps.

chesterc,

No remote starter here. Only thing that is installed on it that could be somehow related to electrical is LoJack.

Thanks again!

I was informed today by dealership service manager that body shop has finished work on my warranty paint issues and that tomorrow dealership will finish replacing tonneau cover that was never installed right and replacing railguards delaership damaged when installing tonneau cover. That will make total of 22 days my truck has spent in shop just this time.

Also, while I was visiting body shop (separate company from dealership) this morning, guy I was speaking to had problem starting it twice in a row. VERY same problem I reported but dealership service said is not a problem. You should have seen confusion on his face. When he stepped out he told me "That truck should have started when I tried it, how come it did not?!". Only thing I could do is sigh.

As soon as I catch my breath back I am taking this truck to different dealership to address remaining problems.

I will keep you posted.

So far it has happened three times. I will be purely filling up with 76 in the upcoming weeks. Since I have been filling up with Chevron for the past 3 weeks. Let's see what happens.

I have the same thing about 1 out of 10 starts. I only use premium chevron or 76 and either way same result. I was puzzled and ready to go to dealer.

Here's what I found out so far.

I always fill up the truck only after the "Empty Light" goes on. Once the truck is filled I go on my way.

What I have noticed is that within 2-5 starts after I fill up that I start getting starting problems. It's like the fuel is seeping back to the tank and no fuel on the hoses.

It has happened 6 times now since I bought the truck, I am also getting some ticking noise from the engine itself.

Valero Gas: I experience starting problems
76: Gas -- can't recall if I ever had any problems
Chevron -- starting problems
Shell -- no problems to my knowledge.

I will be taking the truck for it's 1st oil change in a few weeks. Hopefully, I don't go through the same BS that the dealerships are giving you.

chesterc,

I usually refill when I am down to quarter of tank left. I don't see any difference in pattern between when tank is full, half full or 1/4 full. In my layman's head (I can be wrong) if that was the reason changing fuel brand would make no difference. Yet, we are BOTH experiencing issues with Chevron and not experiencing it when using 76 (to be precise: I experience it less often). That is puzzling cause it is Chevron that Ford itself uses. Once I get truck back I will switch back to Chevron (it has been nothing but 76 in it for a while) and if I notice increase in frequency of problems we have figured out first part of the puzzle (how to reproduce it).

Thanks for the input, it is appreciated!

same crap

Z,

My problem is mainly when the truck is cold. Then it cranks for longer than usual period. I beleive it is the fuel pump(no codes) I had a Lightning and when this occured it was the fuel pump.

Hey ZoranC,

Here’s my latest status…I’ve made over 125+ cranks without failure. Out of curiosity, I even used COSTCO gas (91) the last 2 weeks without incident.

I gotten myself in the habit of turning the key to the first position and I leave it there to pull on the seatbelt and then I crank it up. So far it’s firing up on the first time. Doesn’t matter if the truck is cold or hot, full or almost empty. This energizes the starter components and ensures the fuel pressure rail is brought to the proper starting level. I got this tip from a friend who builds his own race cars.

Hope this helps.
