Better (easier) foglight mod!
Stock Switch Mod
BlownHarley or anyone else that has modified the in-dash light switch. As all the posts in this string have indicated, both mods achieve the desired results, though I'm with the group that would prefer to control everything from one switch - Could you post the mod you had to make to the stock in-dash light switch.
I pulled it yesterday and cut the black plasit "pin" inside the switch housing that stopped the switch from pulling all the way out in any position other than the most right where you can turn the fogs on with the lights on. It was the "pin" that was guided by the plastic bezzel like a cam. The light switch now pulls all the way out (like you were turning the fogs on in stock switch configuration) in any position but the fogs still only come on in the original position. There was mention of a white tab that was either cut or melted - I did not see any thing else to modify? Do you have to go deeper into the switch?
Thanks

Tread, i believe you also have to do some splicing with the wires to get the total effect. Here's the how to from this site:

Tread,
No monkeying with the wires is necessary unless you have the daytime running lamps. The link 356 gave explains it better than I ever could. I basically pulled the switch and figured it out. I however took the switch completely apart to perform the procedure. I used a soildering iron to basically "rivet" it back together at the original fused locations. It's just my opinion that extra switches are hokey, and that's why I decided to do it this way over a year ago. In my opinion, the function is much more "stock like."

any chance a wire came loose where you spliced it? or its a bad or faulty extra switch???

hope it all goes well and you figure out the problem. keep us posted.
Fog Lamp Mod - Switch
Thanks for the info -
The link was accurate. With the mod I made to the black plastic pin the fogs were coming on in the autolamp position which they don't do in the stock switch configuration. Looks like the only thing left I need to do is the splice together the #2 & #12 wire to get them to come on with only the parking lamps as well.
As far as the mod to the plastic pin versus filing down on the plastic colar to provide additional slots allowing the switch to be pulled out in additional positions other than stock - I'm OK with the results and the feel of the switch. It is completley functionable and the mod is transparrent - Espcialy considering the fact that no additional switch is needed.

Is there a constant power I can pull from? I would like to be able to have the fog lights on seperately w/o running lights etc. Thanks

Josh I need a little more education here. The panel that surrounds the headlight switch has a notch in it at the bottom center. I put a screwdriver in it, but it doesn't seem to want to pop loose. Am I missing something? Am I just not prying hard enough or am I about to break it?
Also, the dash dimmer switch is in the same panel. Does it come out with the panel?

yup that all comes out as one piece. not sure why it isn't working, but maybe you need a longer screwdriver? make sure its really think, like a jeweler's screwdriver, and once the bottom releases just a little, do the same for the clip on the left center, and then the top right. it can be a little tricky at 1st, but once you figure it out its pretty easy. just be careful. 70 bucks for a new one
hope this helps some
