Formula for a 12 second HD-F150?
Formula for a 12 second HD-F150?
Ok guys,
As of 2 days ago I'm now the proud owner of an 02 HD-F150, very proud <g>
What needs to be done to get this truck into the 12 second club sans nitrus? This will be a daily driver as well.
Parts and approximate costs would be great
Regards,
Mike

WOW
12 SECONDS THATS PRETTY FAST!!! I just did a 6lb bottom pulley 2 stage Diablo chip and a new air box. It is much faster but not anywhere in the 12's. I would have to imagiine that NOS is the only way to get close. Well good luck.
The fastest supercrew on this board is 13.9, and he has it pretty well modded up. Talk to skidmark, it's his truck. But I highly doubt you will ever get that low with such a heavy truck.
i dont see why its not possible...there plenty of "L"s in the 12 sec club.....and the HD is the same drive line and HP potential and the HD weighs like 600lb more...so it will take a little more hp but a 12.9 in my mind isnt that tough.....some good tires and good hp and you should be there.....i had my lexus with 440rwhp land a 11.9 with only a 1.9 short time....and that car is close to 4000lb.....so i dont see it impossible at all......Jeff

here are his mods: jdm headers and full exhaust, eletric fan, ram jlp ram air, jlp lower pulley, throttle body, jdm flip chip , with a mild tune and water pump, and he kept the spare on and the bedmat in, and only took out the bed extender. So Nos definatley isn't the way to go. Bottles are for babies, real men get blown!

With a couple grand in mods you can get there. Its not impossible, and you don't need nos to get there.
if u guys have any questions u can email me at cobrasvt1@aol.com if i get a chance i will post my best runs on this board but u can def get these things to move. if u want to go crazy which i will even do . u can change the block and put a bigger blower, it will be just as streetable as it is now but it will make enough power to go 11,s
hey cobra, did you see the thread in the L forum about the new KB blower for the L's that they are coming out with that will make double the hp at the same psi of boost? I can find it and put a link here if ya want

One of the things to consider is the weight. 600-700 extra pounds of weight is going to add 7 or 8 tenths to the same quarter that an L would run. Given that, everything else should be roughly equal. So, to get our HD into the 12s (12.99 is twelves!) you will need to do the same thing an L does to get to very low 12's. That amounts to at least 4lbs of boost over stock (6# for us), some intake work, air intake, and an excellent tune. On a really good weather day, you should break the 13 mark. Now, in the heat, it is going to take an immense amount of horsepower to get there...
When all is said and done, here is where I will have ended up and where I will probably stay... (yeah, right)
6lb lower
ported / polished blower intake
ported / polished stock throttle body (matched)
Denso Plugs
Modified Stock Airbox
Chip
Electric Fan
Cobra Water Pump
Factory Tech Valve Body
Deep Tranny Pan
Oil Capture mod
Mac Catback
I have given serious thoughts of going to a 4.10 rearend and pirelli 295/25/20 tires for a net ratio around 3.95, but I am afraid the loss of traction will negate any other gains...
If I can't run a 12xx with the above mods in perfect weather, then 12's weren't meant to be for me...

Thanks Harley#356 for the list of mods. With so many mods available it is hard to know which ones are the best for the buck.
I know that what I asked for could be a challenge but I have no point of reference as to how challenging it is. Sounds like a few grand and I'm close to the 12 second club.
My immediate plans are probably:
6#or8# pulley
Flip Chip
Cool Air Intake
Boost bypass
Oil breather filter
Any ideas what the above will do as far as RWHP and track time?

600 lbs more??
Not sure about the HD SC weighing 600 lbs more than the L. Truck Trend Magazine (March/April 2002) has a road test review chart on page 83 that states:
Ford SVT F-150 Lightning curb weight lbs - 4670
and
Ford F-150 Supercrew curb weight lbs - 4697
So does the HD weigh 550 lbs more than the regular Supercrew? I had been told that extra weight had been added to the L by Ford and there was very little weight difference. Anybody got any more info on weight differences?

Dare I ask this...
All of your suggested mods show "chip". From what I have read thus far this seems to be almost a religious subject. I have boiled my choices down to Diablo or SuperChip. Is there really much difference or only minor differences? Event in the Chip forum there are no clear answers to be found.
Thanks to all that have responded thus far.

Here is a link to a pretty good "go-fast" calculator: http://www.prestage.com/carmath/. Seems pretty accurate.
I bought a chip not for the tune per se because a 4lb lower (my current setup) is fine without tweaking timing and/or a/f ratios. The stock setup has a bunch of room to "expand" outside the base truck...
Mine was instead purchased to push the shift up to 5400 from 5250 and to shorten the shift duration.
In those two areas, any chip will be the same.
some chips are going to advance the stock timing a little and lean it just a tad to get the max "safe" horsepower.
Your best bet is to have someone who has a dyno AND does chips do one for you if you feel you need it.

FEBBER02HD, don't believe the magazines. Guys on here have weighed their trucks, and the HD consistently weighs just around 600lbs heavier than the L. And just common sense will tell ya that 2 more doors, 2 more seats, another console, heavier rims, more glass, more carpet, speakers, sheetmetal, longer frame, exhaust, etc. will weigh more than 27 lbs. Heck, the rims alone are more than 27 lbs heavier than the L all together. Ya can't trust the magizines.
I think edmunds lists the HD as ligher than the L. Duh!
turbojones, i think more guys with 02's are going with diablo chips than the superchip. I think diablo started tuning the 02's before superchip. But they should both be good chips, especially with custom tunes.
