Tonneau Issue
Greg,
glad to hear SOMEONE is getting some action on the cover! I'm writing to George Magor at Ford explaining the disparity of this whole deal.
Anyway, that lock, is it the one to block the access to the spare (ie. the hole through the bumper?).
Take care, and I notice someone else gets online at weird hours besides me!

The tonneau looks like a sure thing! I filled out the form that Ford sent to the general manager of the dealership I work for. I faxed the form like the instrutions say too. Even got a reply back by fax the next day. The dealer that you drop truck off with is to deliver truck to a Lear dealer to have cover installed. First you have to contact dealer that you want too deal with. They will have form. The dealer is only getting $100.00 from Ford for delivering the vehicle to a Lear dealer. So some dealers might not want to deal with it. I truly dont want someone making minimum wage to have a high speed run down the interstate in my truck. Not to mension the miles put driveing to this Lear dealer (about 30 miles away)I only have 2000 miles on my truck after 4 months and I am even driving it less now.
Did go to Daytona. Anyway Lear will be installing cover starting in January. So get to your dealer even before you get the letter from Ford.
>>>Hot tip: bring the letter from the jacket offer. It has a Customer Number on it. You will need that number to fill out the paper work form.

I can wait till january to get this free cover but I can,t get any one in Houston TX who will deal with it. I either get (I don't know what you are talking about or we don't have any information on it.) I tell you Ford really pulled a boner on this one or it really dosen't care about how their dealerships run. What's the sense of offering this if it is such a pain in the *** to get. If any one knows how to get a hold of Gene Brown F 150 Marketing Manager I'd like to know.

sorry for the delay in responding!
the best thing to do if your still having concerns with the dealer you choose is to stop by the dealer. phone calls are not going to help. I get over two hundred phone calls a day on every issue with Ford vehicles
If the person does not have any info, see if you can talk to the General Manager. The info on ordering the covers was sent to him in a dealer information package that Ford sends to dealers almost weekly. he may or may not have seen the ordering sheets. I am lucky. The General Manager is a friend of mine and anything he see to do with Harley Davidson F-150 he just brings over to me. I have filed everything about the H-D F-150.
I just hope your dealer kept the order forms.
It is going to be the only way you are going to be able to get the cover. By the way Ford has a special phone number for H-D F150 concerns 1-877-783-1537. Try the dealer in person first (try on a weekday maybe mid afternoon, mornings a worse) not on a Monday or Friday, find someone in service, and just ask. hopefully they can find the order form or know who might have it. if not just tell them Ford sent them in a dealer package to the gereral manager and maybe he still has them or knows who he gave them too. if not have them call the number 1-877-783-1537 and see if they will send the forms back to the dealer. if the dealer still does not help.(more than likly because of the tranporting of the vehicle to the leer dealer) work with the dealer, maybe they will let you bring truck to the leer dealer for installation. shoot they will still get the hundred dollars with no effort on there part(and knowbody else will be driving your truck)
Good luck

HI,
When I bought the truck there was a sticker that stated "do not order a tonneau cover, one has been ordered for you." I received the letter from Ford stating that I need to order a cover so I called the number for the tonneau cover to verify that one had been ordered by the dealer. I was told there was no way they could tell if the tonneau cover had been ordered; I needed to call my dealer. I called the dealership and asked the sales person and was told that he didn't know, try the business manager. The business manager wasn't sure either - he just kept telling me that one came with the truck, it was part of the purchase... DUH.. not what I needed to know. So I'm still unsure as to whether or not I need to order one.
Anybody have any other ideas? Obviously the dealership and the tonneau cover dept aren't working together.

When I bought my truck at the end of September, there was no sticker telling me not to buy one and, in fact, it was THE DEALER that sold me the tonneau cover for it at $650.00! Now I find out that a free one is available?! WTF?
Not pleased with this, but if I have to I'll just have TWO covers. I'm not going to forego the free one. What I'd like to do is get the cost that Ford is paying Leer for the cover either in a check or I'd even settle for Ford merchandise.
Any thoughts on this?

HarleyGuy,
From my experience, you'd be better off taking the letter back to your dealership and demanding a cash refund of the cost of the tonneau cover.
I've tried to work with the various Manufacturer's customer service (ford, chevy, pontiac, and dodge) and have never gotten them to do anything - they always say to contact the dealership.
I've been dealing with Ford, trying to sort out whether or not a cover was ordered for my truck. The dealership says they "think" they ordered one, check with the tonneau cover reps listed on the mailer. The tonneau cover person said there was no way they could tell if the dealership ordered one or not; which strikes me as odd that they don't know who has ordered a cover. If I order one on my own I could end up owing for 1 if both come in.. If I don't order, I could not get one... It's getting agravating dealing with this for over 2 weeks now... and still no answers.
Good luck,
Lanna (Devlishz)

Actually, my cover was ordered from a different dealer than the one from whom I got my Harley-Davidson F-150. It is a UniCover and it's really a nice unit. The reason I ordered from another dealer (rather than my dealer who sold me the truck) was because my local dealer doesn't deal with tonneau covers. (Yep, I live in a *very* small town -- But it's NICE here and I ain't movin'!!!
)
I have waited 3 weeks now after sending a snail mail about my problems to the Marketing Manager at Ford and not a word back from him about this issue and I have to admit, I'm quite disappointed. Tonight, I sent an email to other parties at Ford with a Word Document attached showing the letter I had originally sent.
Guess we'll just see what happens. I bought Ford stock back in the summer of 1996 as I was very impressed with the 1997 newly designed f-150 and, in fact, bought one! Guess it might be time to sell this stock. (Of course, the only satisfaction in that case would be mine. Big corporations pay little attention to the little stockholder anymore.)
Here is a picture of the new cover I ordered 3 days after buying the truck. (The jaggies in the pic are from my low resolution camera, not actually on my "baby!")

Nice truck with the cover on it. Just curious about the fit--assume no problems. Was the price installed? Assume it folds?
One thing I'm struck by is how the cover changes the character of the truck when viewed from the rear compared to an open box!

The cover doesn't fold, it is a single formed mold of fiberglass. The tonneau cover has two locks, on each side as you can see, which make it fit very snug and tight. After unlocking it, the lid lifts up from the rear on gas struts. If you need to use the truck without the lid, all that need be done is to unlock it, undo a clip on each strut and slide it forward off the small hinges under the rear truck window. (Two people needed, but the lid itself only weighs about 125 lbs.
The truck is MUCH better looking with this lid, imo, and I looked at a lot of different models and styles before selecting this particular one. (I've had no problems at all with it, although I've not really tested it for leakage in heavy rain yet. And, yes, the price was installed.)
Better yet, I just found a pic from the brochure installed on a different truck:

Bought my HD F150 this week. Dealer faxed a form I had to fill out saying the cover would be delivered and installed in january '01.
The Dealer also told me it would be a leather HD Jacket....go figure.

I pick up my truck tomorrow!
Where did the form come from? Should I be asking the dealer for it or was it in the paperwork that came with the truck?
What is this about a jacket?
I don't want to miss out on one little freebie.
Thanks

Hey Motorworf
Once ford gets your paperwork you should be receiving letter from Ford via snail mail on the jacket. As for the more important issue ..the tonneau cover. You need to speak to the service manager where you get your truck. He should have a form to fill out to order your cover. Don't delay on this one. Its first come first serve! Then just sit back and enjoy the jaw dropping fool drool looks you get as you cruise on by...Ya gotta love it!!

If anyone is having a issue with the cover, go to a ford dealer fill out the form for the cover and have it faxed to the number on the form. If a cover was already ordered the order will not be accepted. if no cover was ordered the company, Leer, will fax back a comfermation that they got the order with a installers name that will contact you when cover available for install. ford is just paying leer is making and installing
