Wink heat exchanger

i'm pondering my next mod and i know it has to be slicks/rims but what i really want to do is cool the intake charge. is anyone running a JDM heat exchanger and is it all that? are there any other product suggestions? what about electric fans/lower thermostat and water pump effectiveness?

From what ive read the JDM heat exchanger will lower the intercooler temp about 30 degrees, this will be my next mod. im also running a 170* thermostat, I also just got a JDM electric fan kit and will be installing it very soon.

That's an expensive mod... It will help around the track, but I think that you should avoid that mod for a daily driver and spend the money on something else for horsepower...

I think you would be better served installing fans on the intercooler radiator before adding that big thing. It will serve much of the same purpose and is cheaper.

Installed my JDM heat exchanger today. getting ready for the summer heat. (Baton Rouge, Louisiana)
Besides it being huge and cool looking, i dont have any opinios yet.
If it lowers intercooler temps, then its way worth it. Detonation kills. The hotter the air temp, the more timing the computer pulls out.

Yea i'm gonna do it too. what did the tab come to, first the heat exchanger+fan kit? how was the installation?

i read your post about pullin the cats off. did you remove the front and rear cats and are you runnin headers? give some details if you could. i talked to REM about this and they just didn't believe that it would help, at least according to their experience. it makes perfect sense to me, i think it just causes exhaust system sales to suck. let me in on this mod.

thanks for the info.

Ken,

The heat exchanger helps out on the street more than at the track, in my opinion. It keeps the air charge at a lower and more consistent level in stop light to stop light driving. That's a definite plus.

Adding fans isn't a bad idea if you drag race a lot, and don't forget to wire up your intercooler pump so you can manually switch it on and off. It'll help keep you more consistent during bracket racing.

Beings that i own a pipe bender, i removed both cats.
Still using the stock manifolds, and the stock muffler and tailpipes.
VERY noticable seat of the pants power gains.
The stock hd muffler is very loud by itself, there must not be much baffling in there, it has to flow very well considering the noise levels.
since then i have installed 2 dynomax glasspacks to kill the raspy noise, and they work very well. almost near stock noise levels again with no power loss.
i only have the jdm (fluidyne) heat exchanger. with shipping this was about $500.
I called fluidyne first, and they said they did not have a cooler for us. ????
The JDM unit only appears to have 2 tabs welded to the top to mount in the stock brackets. I only had to drill the holes larger.
The cooler does hang below the bumper.
I molded a piece of plastic that was taken off of a lower bumper cover we had laying around as scrap to direct the air totally through the cooler and to protect the bottom from road bandits.
I personally dont intend on getting headers. I measure around 1 psi of back pressure, good enough for me at this point.
IM pretty new to these mod motors, (as far as hopping them up). Im not sure what headers will do for you.
I chipped another apex seal in the RX7, so it will be down for a while, (bridge porting this go around).
I plan on spending more quality time with the HD, and learning and trying new things.

I went to www.teamjdm.com and I can not find it anywhere. What's the price? Nevermind. I just called them. $465 (Disclaimer: Gentleman on phone was not absolutely sure is he correct)

Thanks!

So you removed the forward and rear cats and I guess you left the front & back o2 sensors, right? Let me know if this is correct. I would think the power cooler would be a must have in Baton Rouge! My wife is from is New Iberia, LA. which is hot as hell and humid like a jungle. Thanks for the info..
