Does anyone know how much a dealer would charge for aiming? I don't want to play around with mine because I read somewhere they use some device to aim headlights.
I read somewhere at STW that somebody took theirs in and it was like 37 bucks to get aligned or somewhere around there? i know some guys bought some special tool of ebay to do it, but i'd rather have somebody know what their doing align them (not that the dealer does ) but after swapping out my oem head and corners for the 02HD ones, even though i adjusted the tabs to about the same position as the stock ones, they are still a little off. just haven't had the time to get em aligned yet. if you take em in, post how much it was

Before you all with headlights that are not aimed right after changing out bulbs, Make sure that the headlight is re-installed properly. It might take a little bit of messing with to get it back in right. You can still slide the locks in with the headlight not being properly positioned. Unlock it and pull it out and replace. It should not have any play or wiggle if it is in the bracket correctly. You should not have caused the headlights to go out of adjustment by just replacing bulbs.

I think gearhead is right here. I know when i swapped my headlights out, it was tricky to get the new ones all the way in right, and the way to adjust them was the screw peg on the back of the headlight itself. Screw the peg in or out depending on how you wanted it aimed. so swapping the bulbs shouldn't effect the aim

I got to say that the SS are great. I got mine right after christmas from autozone for $20.00(for the pair). I thaught that was the price, but from the sounds of this thread the kid at the counter forgot to ring up both bulbs or something. The other thing was the aiming of the bulbs. I also noticed when I installed my bulbs that I threw off the alignment. I brought it to my body shop and they aligned them in about 10min for no charge. I am not sure what the deakership would charge.

Thumbs up

Just another for the SS's. Big improvement over stock. All I'll add here is if you get a counter guy who's as clueless as mine was at your parts store, and he hasn't a clue about the rebate form, cut bait and go on line at www.sylvania.com and you can download a printable copy of the form. If I had known that when I bought them, I wouldn't have let my blood pressure rise so much at the store.

IMO, I agree with Josh in that everyone should email Sylvania about making an H1 foglight bulb.

A good way to aim is to park the truck about 25' from your garage door or a wall, then outline where the beam hits. Change the bulb, then adjust it to the original marks. Also, there was a website that told you how to aim your headlights, using a tape measure and yardstick, again, on a wall or garage door.

Very easy with the Hella H4 replacements on my Toyo pickup...the beam pattern is very clearly defined, making it easy.....Rube

Got mine for a little cheaper than you guys. AutoZone gives you a 10% discount if you are a fireman. You must have an ID card showing this though. So I paid:

$19.99 x 2 = $39.98 - 10% discount = $35.98 + $2.88(tax) = $38.86 - $10.00 rebate = $28.86 total.

So I saved $1.14

Just installed the Sylvania sliverstars and I have now gone from yellow to white lights. Picture in my album that shows the difference.

Harley...... The Sylvania website says end of June 2003 (I think when I last looked) so you've got plenty of time yet.

OK, I purchased a set yesterday from Advanced Auto. They wanted $26 each, but I told them I can get them from Autozone for $19, so they happily matched the price.

As far as installaion goes, the little pull bars that you must pull up and out on to get the headlight assembly out was a pain in the A$$. After about 15 min of trying to muscle the lever up, I finnaly got smart and lubed it down with some WD-40. That helped alot.

The lights definelty looked cooler, but I didnt notice any major difference in the brightness of the lights. Just my .02.

Guys,

You can also remove the 2 screws that hold the coolant tank. I take 2 min and make it alot easier.

Coolant tank

When I installed mine I tried to remove the coolant tank as well but it looked pretty snug. I took the cowl cover off, took out the bolt on the metal bracket on the top, where's the other one? Do I pull up? Or do I just slide it away?

I'd like do this so I don't have to mess with the pull-up tabs. The ride side is accessible from behind, I'd like to do that on the left as well so I don't get the assembly all wacked out.

Thanks!
