Anyone added batteries to HD?

Has anyone added extra batteries to their HD? I know a lot of L guys have built a holder under the truck bed. Thanks.

not exactly on the topic, but does anybody know where the cheapest place is to get an optima battery? my stock battery already died on me once and needed a jump from my 85. when it started up again, it was barely in the charge range, so it barely died.
Plus with me adding more lighting and stuff, i'd feel better with a better battery.

thanks

I got mine locally. My buddy that owns the Car audio shop got one for me. Yellow top, now I have a red top in my HD (you saw that Josh) I don't know I'll get some prices.

Mark,

Just wondering why? Why do you want to add a battery? Just curious.

I'd like to add a few actually... My wife and I hope to do a lot of camping next year and I'd like that extra power storage for powering camping accessories. I wouldn't mind having the extra engine off play time on the stereo also.

thanks crockett. which one would should i get though? yellow top or red top? i know there's a difference between the 2, but i'm not totally sure on what would be best for me. i looked at their site, but that didn't help any

i don't put many miles on my truck, so they are mostly short trips, and 1/2 of those at night with the lights on and radio always on (i think thats why it died the 1st time, not enough longer drives to give the battery a good full charge). And i've also got that neon, even though i heard it doesn't use much power, and i plan on doing a system eventually. I'd like to get the red though mainly cuz it would match my engine bay but if the yellow would be better for me, then thats what i'd get.

Josh,

thezeb.com has the red top Optima for $134.99. I have ordered from thezeb many times and would recommend them.

-Mark

BTW - generally you want Red Top as your primary.. Yellow for addons.

Okay,

The yellow is 870 cranking amps 550 cold cranking amps
The RED is 980 cranking amps and 800 cold cranking amps

That's why I replaced the yellow with the red. More power. The lights still dim with the subwoofer but, not as bad as the yellow or the stocker.(yuk)

I would go with RED. Oh wait I did

Batteries have little to do with power delivery while the engine is running. If your lights are still dimming with the bass, add a 1F or bank of 1F capacitors.

Thanks Mark, i ordered my neon lights from them and everything went great. quick shipping and no problems at all. i was worried about a tube being broken or something, but it was all good
i did notice they had optima's on their site, but i thought they were more expensive than that. i'll have to check it out again

thanks guys

Mark,

Yeah, you're right the battery has little to do with it, I do need a cap. I want an alumapro 10 farard cap. But you don't want to know how much.(cough cough) Even though I get it at cost!

BTW, the thinking a few years ago was 1F for every 1000 watts. Has thinking changed?
