Attention Bikers! 2002 Yahama R1??

What do you guys think about the Yahama R1? I'm just itching to get a crotch rocket and I have heard some good things about the R1, plus they make it in a sweet silver/black color scheme.

There is only one way to ride...

I see you are wise enough to own a blue oval but when it comes to bikes there is only one way to ride...red.

Hope this works, it is my first time trying to post a pic on a post.

The R1 is an awesome bike! Most of my friends ride R6s, and I would not mind having a R1 myself; but if it is your first bike you may want to consider a used 600 before you get on one of the big guys!

nice pic........i just busted in my pants

you should start out with a realtively low powered bike, then work your way up to the more powerful ones. That way you won't kill yourslef.

Dan, thanks for the advice. I too have thought about that, but I can honestly sit here and say I have a huge amount of respect for ANY bike. I had planned on just riding it around my development, etc for a good bit of time before taking it out on the road and getting my license. I am sure once I get comfy w/ it the temptation to take off will be there, but while its not quite the same, thats what I got my Lightning for! We shall see, but I think this R1 is just too nice for me to pass up even if I should probably "crawl before I walk" as the saying goes.

99RedVW,

i don't speak from experience, but thats what everyone tells me. I've got a few friends who have/or had bikes. There's probably nothing wrong with getting a really fast one right off the bat. As long as you play it safe, its all good.

I'd like to get a bike someday. (when i can afford it, which is probably never). Nothing really fast, just something to mess around with.

Wink

If it's a first bike, your going to put it down, no matter what it is. it would be better to learn how to drop a previously dropped 600, and later sell it to the next squid, for what you bought it for, than to drop a brand spankin new R1

MRBBQ...your probably right, although I have a good amount of friends who started out on the level of R1's,etc w/ no riding experience and never dropped it, they were just careful and lucky I guess. I think no matter what I have this R1 in my mind, lol. But I am sure if I get it and it is dropped I will be wishing it was some used 600 and not a nice new R1 !!!

good luck with the R1, respect it and watch out for the blue ovals and bowties. it's a sweet bike, but i'm shopping for something, my old back can handle, but still has a little bit of "ouumphh", like this
