Unhappy 3 guys at my school died last night

They were racing down the boulevard in a Civic and they lost control and hit a cement pillar that was a corner of a fence.

3 sophomores... flags at half mast, news vans all over at school, girls crying

The driver didnt have a license, just a permit. And I just cant get the thought of their parents reactions to the news out of my head...

God Bless em, Rest In Peace

Really sorry to hear that. My heart goes out to the parents. I worried about that when my kids were teenagers. As it worked-out they were both in accidents where they could have been killed. I guess luck or a higher power was riding with them. I know that I was sure lucky as I did my share of street racing in the 60's, and we were lucky if we had lap belts. Since I moved from Chicago to Cincinnati I hear that kids here are doing what they call "hill hopping" and once and a while it takes their lives. It's unfortunate, but it's a part of growing-up.
Again...sorry to hear that.

Sorry to hear the news Two 16 year old kids were killed street racing in San Antonio a few weeks ago. Driving a early 90s Mustang 5.0 120 MPH down a busy street. Guess you can only feel so sorry for them....

I've had serveral close calls in my past. My first car was a Trans AM GTA w/350 TPI. Waaaay too much car for a fresh 16 year old driver. One day I was traveling down I10 to San Antonio doing about 85 MPH...it started sprinkling a little bit...I forged ahead. All of a sudden it started pouring down...almost to the point of 0 visibility. As I started slowing down to 65 (which is still to fast in that rain) and the car started to skid. I ran off the road, hit a cement ditch, the car flew in the air and did a 180 and hit a tree...on my SIDE! The driver door was pushed about a foot in, the window was busted, etc. It hit so hard, the rear view mirror was in the hatchback, the trim around the radio was 20 ft outside from the car, and the center caps on the wheels were knocked out. A DPS office pulled up about 30 mins later and couldn't believe it. I didn't have a single scratch! He said he's seen wrecks less severe than that where people have died. I truly feel that the man upstairs was riding with me that day. I know one thing, when I have kids and it's time for them to get a car...a sports car is the last thing they'll have. I'll also make them work and pay for it....although I would of course help them get it. Maybe if teens pay for their own car, have a responsibility for it instead of parents handing them everything...maybe they'll appreciate what they have instead of showing off and wearing the hell out of it. RIP to the people that have died recently.

although this would be an unpopular option, I think the only solution to this is to limit the driving 16-18 year olds can do. It iwll be no problem for the responsible guys, but I think (and af ew states already agree) that 16 year olds aren't young or mature enough to be trusted with that kind of power. In several states, 16-18 year olds can't drive at night, and can't have friends in the car. I think thats enough to limit a lot of the accidents that occur.
A while back in Denver we had a kid, got his license that very day, was doing 75 in a 25, running red lights and stop signs before he finally got in a big accident. He was in his parents suburban, he killed three people and paralyzed two more. He was fine though and served no jail time.
When I was in high school a total of 9 students died throughout my four years, it was always their fault, and it was always either drunk driving, driving trying to show off to their friends, or driving too late and falling asleep at the wheel. While I am sympathetic, I only feel sorry for their parents and friends, not for them.

they have that here. a 16 year old cannot drive past 11pm i think it it, but the problem with that is that it is not enforced. there really is no way for a cop to tell that the person driving the car is 16 yrs old. i also think that they should raise the driving age to either 17 or 18, some kids just arent mature enough. of course, then that affects the 16 and 17 years old that ARE mature enough to be on the road.

Thumbs up Age

You have to be 18 to drive a car in my country.
Thank God for that.
16-18 years old cause trouble enough on their illegal scooters (up to 55 mph, 50-70 cc)
