My wife's 2002 Highlander will smoke the tires from a standstill and will blow the doors off of most cars. It is absolutely one of the smartest vehicles ever designed, nothing on the market really compares to it except a Lexus RX 300. And it is built well and runs the way it should, unlike that stupid 2001 Taurus she traded for the Highlander. Everyone that has ridden in it so far wants one. ONe of our friends is making a deal now to trade in a Tahoe. Toyota hit a home run with the Highlander, rice or no rice.

How do you get it to smoke the tires from a standstill? Mine doesn't do that and I've got the V-6 in it. Unless they had a massive HP boost between the 2001s and the 2002s.

Hell, mine wont do that in snow! I can SMASH it at any stand still, even in the rain and get NO spin... AWD baby! Now if you have a V6 4X2 you are lighter and I could see wheel spin then...

Remember, it wasn't long ago when the Mustang 5.0 only had 220 HP, as does the highlander. The stang had a bit more torque due to engine size and 8 cylinders. But not that much more.

The highlander has a very complex engine and I believe some sort of 3 stage intake system. When all three are open the engine sounds pretty nice for a mid-size SUV. The vehicle pulls nicely up to about 3500 RPM and excitingly above 3500.

I know there are better trucks and SUV's, but its a helluvalot nicer and more fun than my wifes Honda CR-V... That CR-V is a TURD! Yea it will run forever, but that pisses me off cause I have to wait a longggggggggggg time before I can ditch it! She loves it... I actually had her interested in an new Audi A4 (V6) AWD... That car is totally awsome!

My best friend just bought a 2002 Subaru WR-X... Wouldnt mind one of those either....

I'm actually saving for a Viper. I think I can get a nice used GTS (98-99) for about 50K ish...
I'd have one right now in my garage if daycare didnt cost me $800 per month and diapers another $100....

Dennis, I got your poke... Whateva....

My wife's Highlander is a v-6 2wd. I have only smoked em once racing on a newly paved road. I felt bad because it only had about 500 miles on it. I had the transmission switch to snow I think. I have never ragged on it much after that. I do know that passing on a freeway is a breeze at 80 mph.

Damn Rand, you're talking about daycare when you're more concerned about getting a Viper. Id rather have my kid outta daycare than have the latest toys, geesh.

welcome to the we drive rice board?

thought this was still an f150 site, or has that changed too. would have been a cute story if it'd had a truck in it as long as it's told on a truck site.

BTW: i wanted to say the same as frank s
you were in a rice burner just like them. they probably thought you wanted to join their little club

no offense but you know those posts where we say things like "oh those ricers think their cars are so fast" and such things......welcome to the club.

I was joking a bit of course about the daycare... My kid is the most important thing to me... Nough said..

I know this is an F150 site, but isn't this GENERAL DISCUSSION THREAD??? Do you know what general discussion means? Shall I translate for you??

Hell you can probably find a post about the best apple pie recipe in this thread... Duh!

Hey, it was a nice kill. Though I would share it.. You dont like the channel - CHANGE IT! Quit you complaining!

I like many American's have chosen to buy Honda's, Toyota's, Subaru's, etc... For what reason? Did you EVER stop to think why?

Do you know how Capitalism works?

Little lesson in Capitalism for those people who insist on bashing those who buy foreign cars:

First, Amercians buy foreign cars for one or two reasons. One, they personally like the design of a specific vehicle (looks, etc..). Two, they've been burned by an American made car (Ford, chevy, etc..).

Second, if buying foreign cars is so bad, why do Amercicans sell them in America?

Lastly, the people like myself who buy foreign cars end up helping the people like yourself in the long run.

Example: The Americans made total CRAP in the 80's and the foreign car industry took a HUGE chunk of the car market. Why? Because people started realizing that the foreign cars (not all) like Toyota lasted a long time, were more dependable and more economical. The American car big-boys (Ford, Chevy, Chrysler) said "holy Sh*t" what do we do? They got smart and decided to start producing cars that could compete against the foreign products. Hence, the American product line became more robust and the American's bought it.... In the 90's the American car industry made a nice come-back... They now produce some of the best vehicles in the world, as they have in the past!

Everything in this country works this way. Its supply and demand. The ability to compete drives industries higher and higher and to produce better and better products. Its all about who can get the biggest market share....

Granted, not all products are the best which hold the biggest market share (ie Microsoft)... But things are in a constant state of change... Thats what makes us so powerful!!!!

If your a stagnant company, you go down.... Like wise with countries.....

So, think again before you bash those who buy foreign products!

I was bashing the manner in which the Ricers flaunt themselves, portray themselves.... Not attacking what they bought.... They are annoying because they look stupid and act stupid and portray themselves as fast cars when they are not!

stepping off the soap box!

first please notice the smileys on the previous post.

second this is a truck site do we want to hear about your toy....nope, do we care that you bought a toy....nope.

third let me get this straight, it's not ok for us to give you crap because you bought a toy but it is ok for you to give the other ricers crap for deciding to buy products for their cars that they enjoy? sounds a little hypocritical to me.

lastly why do amer buy rice cars, probably for the same reason i buy rice bikes instead of harley. although i currently own brit instead of rice. better product, lower price, yeah i kinda figured that one out all by myself.

really did you not expect a little heat for being on an f150 site talking about beating ricers with your ricer. just grin and bear it. or go brag on the toy sites. i don't remember anyone here flogging seacrow when his wife bought her highlander. matter of fact i think we all congratulated him on the purchase and agreed that it was a nice car.
as far as turning the channel, why this one looks interesting

oh almost forgot the definition of general discussion: that's where f150 owners go to talk about things other then maint, upgrades, or reliability issues with their trucks. please refer to the uper left portion of your screen where it says "the community for late model ford trucks"

what kind of ford truck do you have again?

Sorry Rand but the only car I have ever been stranded in is a Nissan. And I have driven/ridden in hundreds of domestics and imports of varying mileage and maintenance. I'll stick with my reliable domestics.

Ahhh... There's the old Rand again. Seems buying a Toyota hasn't done anything to smooth out his ruffled feathers.

Does anybody have a Toyota website url so he can go there and grace them with his special brand of presence?

Problem with this site is that it attracts too many scholars.... Way over my head... Thanks guys for the informative and witty dialogue.

I'm going to look for a site with more monster truck types... You know, more Redman chewers... The ole "pinch between ma cheek en gums" types...

Its been fun and you've been inspirational! WOW! The things I've learned....

Now Now guys, don't let this get out of hand. We are just talking about cars, no big deal. It's not like the Highlander is the second coming of Christ or anything, it is a very nice car though.

BTW, I picked my F-150 up last Friday and it has not had a hiccup in almost a week. It runs as good as the day I bought it. They did nothing to it. It seems that the cold weather was causing the whole problem.
