jeff51: wow i think i'm jealous, only because i'd like to play with the new toy. i know what you mean about the times of driving. it's always fun when the cars get out there and decide they can go anywhere we go.
donate: i usually go to my dad's house in naples fl. for xmas just to get a break from winter. if you ever get the chance to come see snow for yourself just remember one thing. bring lots of heavy clothes. if you want a test, jump into a walkin freezer. the temp in there is usually 32 or so, that's what we consider a warm up shack in winter

You know what is funny...at 32 degrees in the fall, people think that is cold, and it is the end of the world, but come spring time, at 32 degrees, people are putting on shorts, and driving around with the windows down, heck I have even seen people with convertibles with the tops down at around 32.....Guess that makes us wierd huh?
But then agian I want to see a person down in Florida take their F150 "on the lake" to go ice fishing.

yep same here with the convertibles in the spring. i'm not much better though, once it gets 35 or higher i usually take my bike out for a spin. what's worse is when you come home and say "it's not bad out today"
i agree with the fla fishing, although i've seen one try. he forgot about the tides on the coast, was actually kind of funny to see him running up to get his vehicle.

I am originally from Indiana, so I am used to snow and ice.... but here in NC, if we get snow, everything slows to a standstill... alot of businesses close....

It is dangerous to drive because there's a mixture of folks from the north and south here... the northerners are experienced on snow... the southerners are not... So the southerners usually do one of two things... scared of it, or think hey if he can do it, I can..... interesting results... I have seen cars in tobacco fields 150 yards from the road on a perfectly straight stretch of road.......

Used to be worse, when I first moved here in the late 1980s, when we would have a winter storm watch (which wasn't often) they would send us home from work before it ever started snowing......

Many people here don't realize that 4x4 will help you go, but won't help you stop......

best one i've seen yet was coming home from fla. last year at xmas. going through the mtns in ky there was actually enough snow to stick on the roads and accumulate some. (2-3 inches). i was driving a 4X4 and being passed by cars with tags from fla,ga etc. stopped for a casual dinner then came back out on the road. nothing out there except wis, mich, ill and minn then. we did see the others again later in huge 5 and 6 car pile ups. wasn't funny at all but at the same time you would think they'd realize that if your passing a 4x4 with wis tags in the snow you're probably doing something wrong.

Donate - if you can, bring the family up during the winter & I'll show you Niagara Falls. It is BEAUTIFUL when the mist on tree branches freezes & encases them in ice - they seem to sparkle! As for the snow I'm willing to bet there will be PLENTY for you to have fun in - there are many good ski resorts not far from here. However, since you won't help shovel, I'll have to stay home & do the dirt work myself while you & your family are whoosing down the slopes! Have a hot toddy for me ok? LOL!
Wildchild - do you ice fish? I know there are a lot of guys here who do that but in all honesty, I wouldn't eat ANYTHING that came out of the waters around here. We have WAY too many dead fish washing up on shorelines to make me trust their safety!

Cowlady-

I ice fish, that is why I brought it up about driving on ice...or walking on water for that matter. I enjoy it, and last year was a good cold year to get a lot of good ice on the lakes. OTher than that, the past 4 winters haven't been all that good here in Minnesota as it was too warm to get good ice.
The fish taste best when caught in the winter...the fillets are really nice and firm, not mushy like in the summer months.
I am sure that there will be plenty of snow around this year, as I have a feeling it is going to be worse this year than last year. That is ok, I have a Polaris Xplorer 400 4x4 w/ plow to take care of all that snow. I can do 5 driveways in the time it takes to shovel one. Or just be like my buddy, his parents put in a heated driveway so that they don't have to shovel....Only thing, their driveway slopes down towards the house....

Hey CL, bring your shovel to North Western Ontario and get some practice. No snow in Thunder Bay yet because we are on the lake but we are surrounded. 8 to 10 inches in my hometown of Dryden west of here, hiway north of here closed due to poor conditions. I am sure you would have an unlimited supply of hot toddies and aspirin if you were any good with at all with that shovel. .....and J150, up here we are not sure if TO is a part of Canada.

I know Yoshi,

It was a Canada joke. I'm originally from Hamilton and the girlfriend is from Kirkland Lake, so I know what a northern winter is like, and I understand the anti-Toronto sentiment. In our house the ongoing joke is to ask if there is snow whenever we talk to the family in Kirkland. They've been known to have one last sprinkle in early May.

I'm still a Toronto outsider. When you're from the town, you pronounce it "Toronnah". I still have problems pronouncing it with two "T's"

snow in October

No accumulation, but I did see some of the white stuff flying through the air with Friday's high winds. Then again, it might have been remnants of toilet paper that was strewn all over my yard last weekend thanks to my son's "friends"...counted about 50 cores from the rolls!

I'd rather have snow!
