Daft Drivers

I thought I saw idiot drivers before, but yesterday takes the cake.

I'm on I-10 westbound going into Tallahassee, there was a young college girl (read Mazda 3 with FSU license plate and kitten stickers) riding in the left lane doing 70mph. In the right lane was a dark green Florida fish and wildlife officer in a marked Impala doing the same speed (ie no road equipment; the poor guy was probably on his way to training or something). This girl was white knuckled riding parallel to the officer. At first it was funny. He would speed up, then she would, he would slow down, and she would follow. After about 20 miles and 20 cars behind us later, it wasn't funny anymore.

I'm pretty good about road rage, but I just can't stand people who impede traffic in the left lane. The cop started speeding up so I got in the right lane and now I was parallel to her. I rolled down my window and pointed behind her. She then proceed to look into her rear view mirror for the first time in 30 minutes and promptly slowed down to let the 50+ cars behind her start passing.

I set the cruise to 75 and just walked past the cop. I guess no one else had the *****, because a mile later I could see that cop in the right lane still with someone else now afraid to go past him and a mile-long string of cars behind him.

What have you guys seen that just makes you want to

Yipes, MGD, the middle one is going to take more than just a bit of bodywork to get going again.

The thing I've noticed is that a lot of young drivers don't really have the confidence to pass someone on a two-lane road. Traveling with our trailer, I'm pretty well stuck at 65 mph due to the speed rating on its tires (and past experience with trailer tire failure). I will often get young people behind me who have caught up with me and then will not pass, even though the road ahead is clear for at least a half mile. I also drive close to the right edge of the pavement, so they can see around me. They'll stay there until we hit a passing lane, and then they zoom past.

The thing about passing a cop, or any other "official looking car" is funny though. I've never worried about passing a cop, if he was doing less than the speed limit.

This happened 200 miles away from me.

Yesterday I watched a semi drive 5 miles with a DOT officer trying to pull him over with the cherry's and berry's going. Absolutely no clue what was going on the icing on the cake was me having a front row seat to all this as cars tried to pass me on both sides until they figured out why I was slowing down.

Too bad there's no common sense or common courtesy required to pass a drivers test. I agree with hogging the left lane and still the problem of texting or just chatting on the cell phones and being oblivious to any other traffic. I've seen a lot in my 50+ years of driving and it's only getting worse.

This exactly! About a month ago my mom was involved in an accident where a guy ran a stop sign and plowed into her. The thing is, the road comes to a "T" where he was heading, so if he had not hit her, he would have plowed straight into a concrete/rock wall. Just plain stupid. Hit her going fast enough to roll her Yukon 3 times. No skidmarks or anything, he never looked up from his phone at all. Really shakes ya up to see a family member's car on its side.

Man, if the wreck in the second picture wasn't a fatal, somebody was very, very lucky.

And as for young drivers these days, I'm seeing a double whammy of "I'm too busy with social media" and "What driver training?" This is the generation that's driving (no pun intended) us firmly in the direction of the autonomous car. And now you know why.
