not really in my area, besides I suppose a scattered French teacher or such who's learned it. there is a small population of francophones in NFLD, but those places are a fair distance from me, further west. I grieve to say in one way that I've not yet had the chance to travel far too much of this ole rock, but then, that leaves a lot to discover in the future. she's got quite a bit of history connected to france, most of it is just that now, history, but there's traces left of the language and such in a few spots, few towns with french names, what have you. if you don't know, there's a couple islands off our south coast that are actually France.

My area was part of France at one time also...we still have people that speak French down here. My grandparent's spoke Cajun French well but in my age group they didn't want the kids to learn it. At one time it was also part of New Spain and believe it or not we still have people of Spanish decent from the Canary Islands that still speak that dialect. The whole mid section of the U.S. was once the Louisiana Territory.
