When you got into the later years (early 90's) they were a little bit like stepping into a time warp. The Ford's and Chevy's of the era had already been redesigned two or three times since the square-bodied Dodge's first came out in 1972, and very little had changed on the Mopar's in over 20 years! Although, that was what was also kind of cool about them.....
I see more change than most people do I guess. To me there's as much difference between the old d-series and the 1st gen rams as a 7th and 9th Gen ford. Some similarity, cab and such, but far from the same truck. Fords had the same cab and basic shape for 17 years, 18 for HDs.
That said, even the 13 model years of the 1st gen rams is a fair length generation, and the fords changed their front clip and interior twice in that time and they had the wheel well contours very noticibly changed once. whereas dodge only had more minor changes. But a long generation of truck doesn't bother me one bit if I like the truck. I hope The new 13th generation f150 sticks around a long time, but you don't see that much anymore.
GMs squarebody trucks lasted 15 years plus some generation overlap with only a somewhat slight front clip revamp and partial interior changes. Or my personal favorite on the subject, Their full size vans remained almost unchanged for over a quarter century.

once for GM, 3 times for Ford
