Some of the hull designs with the flared bow look like the "Lafitte skiff" small trawling boats the Cajuns use down here.

Here's a little info on the Lafitte skiff supplied by Nicholls State University the school I attended. We also have a boat building museum that shows how the local boats were built in the past 200 yrs.
