If you have cats that are outside, they should not be. They should be kept indoors.
If you do not have cats cats, then you are not treating them right or they recognize your hostility. The minute I pick up my cats they start purring, even though one is not what you would call a lap cat. However on my desk while on I'm on the computer. He will lay his head against my stomach and curl up and go to sleep. The other is a lap cat who will jump up and lay on my chest and just lay there and purr. He is also a massager. What does a dog do. He licks your face while having the worst breath there is, spreading all kinds of germs just after he licked his butt or genitals or smelled another dogs butt.

This is the biggest reasons I hate cats. There used to be a bunch of them living in my neighborhood so I kept a paintball gun ready to rock & roll for them. There have been quite a few cats running around here with big orange spots on them. However, the coyotes have really put the hurt to the number of outdoor cats I see.

Most all animals like me and I'm not hostile towards any of the cats that my friends own. Your cats seem to be quite different from most that I've been around. Neither of my female dogs lick, for whatever reason. Why exactly should a cat not be kept/allowed outside though? Because they're high-maintenance fluff *****?

They climb on your neighbor's car.
They crap in your neighbor's yard.
They kill a crap ton of the native birds.
They kill a crap ton of the native small mammals.
They spread a lot of parasites.
They breed like crazy and compound the above issues.

If you want a cat keep the damn thing inside so he can yack up hairballs in your shoes, don't make your fleabag problem mine.

Meant to say that if you don't have cats that are not loving or run from you, then they don't feel wanted or there is something wrong with their environment. Sorry about that sentence, my thoughts got ahead of my typing.

As far as high maintenance, they are no more high maintenance than a dog, You feed them, make sure they have their shots, give them love and make sure they are kept clean and their fur brushed. One thing you do not have to do for a cat unlike a dog is give them bathes. They keep themselves very clean. Only have to brush for any tangles etc, just like a dog.

Why should cats be kept indoors.

1. They will stay healthier and live longer.
2. They are hunters. Small animals become their prey, and not just for food. They can destroy ecosystems just like other animals that are non-native can. There are many islands that non-native species have destroyed native animal species. Just because a cat is has been feed, does not mean he will not hunt.
My cats are feed daily, but they will kill mice, cave crickets, stink bugs, and spiders that get into the house. I can always tell if a stink bug is in the house. My cats will be staring at it hoping to be able to get it. Even if I can't see it because it's dark or the bug is on a pattern surface. I live next to fields. I used to have mouse traps or poison out all the time because they would get in during the winter. If they find a hole that they can get their head through, they can get in. No more need for that any more. The mice are either dead from the cats or they smell them and will not come in.

Would you let your dog run around the neighborhood? If so, you are putting them, other people, and animals in danger. That is why most communities have laws that state the dog must be leashed or in a fenced area while outside. Feral dogs can be just as bad as cats. Just like the wolf, they hunt in packs and can destroy many other animals or attack people.

On number 2 above.

Edit - I should also mention that if a cat is uncomfortable or afraid, it will more than likely run. A dog is far more likely to bite or attack.

PPS - KMAC, I will also say you have not seen that kind of actions from your friends cat is because you are not part of the family. You are a stranger in his home and he is not completely comfortable with that. Some dogs are the same way.

I don't like cats much, they pss and shi in the house, scratch your car up, use the kids sandbox, jump on counter tops and prob worst of all, - spray. That can cost you a bit and good luck getting that smell out. I could say more, but that's not why I posted. -

Thinking of a Cat I've seen or Cats; this person had 3 of these. This type of Cat was different; never seen Cats like this before. They were big, big as a bobcat. They're domesticated, have cool coats and huge for a cat. I don't mean fat either, big lol.

What are they?

Never had my cats do that. If neutered, they will most likely not spray. But what they are doing is marking their territory, Dogs do the same thing, including scooting with their butts on the carpet. Never seen a cat do that.

As far as the big cat, it is the Maine Coon.

Another big one is the Savannah. Not as big as the Maine Coon, but still large. Also wilder than most domesticated.

There are also others.

Your VERY fortunate then. I swear, it seemed for awhile there everyone I knew w/cats were dealing with that. Not just once, but over and over again. Throwing mattresses, carpeting couches out because of it, -then it happens again! I don't have that kind of patience. They do all this, but most people WILL NOT get rid of their cat, - Just complain. Hell, they may even blame you lol...

Yea dogs will do that when you feed them junk. Treat them right and it shouldn't happen.

I'll have to search for it. Maybe the Savanah, they didn't show a pic of it. I believe the cats I'm referring too are possibly short hair. Either that or the owners just kept it short. They where all sort of orange-ish w/black stripes. Not as orange as a tiger and the stripes weren't that defined either. I'll have to look, - maybe it was a cross. Not very muscular, just tall, larger frame.

Not fortunate at all. Most will not do that unless there are problems.

Forgot to post this in my original post.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Savannah_%28cat%29

They Maine Coon is too my knowledge the largest domesticated cat. weight of around 25lbs. Savannah "can" get to 30, but not the norm. Not sure what the largest Maine Coon weighed, but in length the largest from tail tip to nose was 48.5".

Edit - It might also be the Ocicat.

I've been looking at all those, - nothing sticks out. First I thought Savana, then Bengal and really, it could be any breed types you've posted.

I thought perhaps Pixie-Bob cat, because that name sounded familiar, -

http://www.ansonroad.co.uk/pb_background_01.asp

Maybe not. Yea I thought theses were in a class all been themselves. There's more large cats out there than I was aware of. Like I said , could be either one.
