Opinions on fuel Treatment

One of the guys at the store recommended this Lucas oil fuel treatment http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/de...0407&ppt=C0126when I was in getting my oil and filter stuff. The last time I used a fuel treatment was when my 02 had 100k miles on it and it seemed to make things worse in the engine. A lot of rough idling and running from what I can remember. Well my 06 is at 100k and I was thinking about using it. I have not yet because I wanted opinions.

-Thanks

Hi.

Just say NO. And - slap the idiot.

The ONLY thing you should be using is Techron.

Lucas is crap - right along with Seafoam.

Been discussed before - at length...

the only reason the parts pups are recomending it is because management told 'em to sell it

I rarely visit an autoparts store as I usually end up getting emotional and putting on my gerbil suit when I try to buy something and I walk in the door with part numbers in hand and I have to explain that NO a Lightning isn't a four wheel drive

if they make me mad enough I ask for a 61 VW beetle radiator cap

Not only was MGD on a roll, but he was dead right as usual.

I guess the makers of those snake oil products sell enough to stay in business, but I wonder who buys the stuff?

The only thing I ever put in gas is oil, when I use it in my chainsaw.

Additives are a billion dollar industry. They do their best at removing money from idiots pockets than anything. Lucas Fuel Treatment, by MSDS, is nothing more than a few ounces of base oil, and as Porky would say "That's all folks"! All you have to do is follow the numbers on this one. Here's the MSDS on it. CAS 64742-54-7 is the number for a mineral base oil.

There are two fuel system cleaners that actually work. One is a PEA(polyether amine) and the other is Stoddard Solvent. You can find these in Techron, which is Ford approved, BG-44 which is far too expensive, or Gumout WITH REGANE, Regane being the PEA. Gumout also comes without Regane so chose wisely. You can also go by any chemical supply house and buy Stoddard Solvent which you may know as dry cleaning fluid. Use 2 oz per 10 gallons of gas.

Yea....those veedub rad caps are a mother to find! Lol
The reason they push stuff like lucas, is because we are constanlty having " sales promotion" contests....store that sells the most in a district gets a pat on the back..yadda yadda. Not only do we get our crappy hourly pay, but we get a SMALL percentage on our monthly sales over a certain amount. Lucas crap is an almost constant promotion. Personally, I never push the stuff....unless u get one, and we have a buy2 get 1 deal, then I DO mention it. Shiieeeet...I LOVE IT when someone comes in, and already has all of the part numbers they want!! Lol I TRY to verify they have the correct stuff, but if they get **** about it.....it's on them if it's wrong
Guess I'll have to go read the links that mgd posted...I HAVE used seafoam in the past...lol

I have heard that BG44K isn't what it used to be due to VOC regulations.

Tip: Chevron and Texaco gas has Techron already in it.
