Anyone use fuel additives and why?

I've never added anything to my fuel tank. My truck runs fine with only 27k miles. I was doing a little research and it seems unclear whether fuel additives seem to help or not. What are your thoughts?

I've always been curious about additives. I simply change my oil and filter every 3k with full synthetic and change my air and fuel filters every 15k. That's really all I do. Just wanted to see what everyone else does and get some opinions / learn something new.

Wuz in a hurry - might be an oil thread or two in there, lol.

Just stay away from Seafoam garbage.

If ya run a high quality detergent gasoline, no other additives are necessary.

Certainly - stay away from octane boosters as well - most of those will coat & destroy yer O2's over time, and the only provide useless fractional octane number increases. Torco is the only one that seems to be recommended & effective - Lightning / boosted folks use it.

Fuel Additives will also wear your plug electrodes pre-maturely if used on a regular basis. Your best bet is one of the following: Conoco, Chevron or Shell.

I put a bottle of Techron in the tank about every 6 months just to clean things up a bit. I also have no problems with Walmart gas - yes, it's E10 everywhere but all gas in MO is E10.

Lol first post ever for this site so maybe I ll get an education by contributing to the conversation.

I do use things like fuel injector cleaner. I do this under the advice of a couple of SAE certified mechanics. My 03 4.2L M50D has been a great truck but in the recent year it has been plagued with intake problems. The most recent problem I had was the code that indicates that the bank 2 Runner flap was stuck in the open position. I wasnt eager to take the intake apart because I have been dealing with gasket leaks there and did not want to break the seal it had. The mechanics told me to use a cleaner like seafoam and blast it through the intake system and poor some gum out in the tank. I was very skeptical but still did it and can say that not only did it turn my check engine light out but the truck felt more responsive. I wouldnt recommend doing this regularly cuz yea im told that stuff is really not good for it but i did like that rather than the latter option of taking the intake apart again

I use Lucas Oil because I joined their cult. Actually, I get it because I'm in the amazon.com cult, and Lucas is sold on amazon.com by the gallon. Otherwise, I would never pay $7 for a single use container. Once upon a time, I recall using something called CD2. Some join Amsoil's cult. Readers of Popular Mechanics tend to gravitate towards Gumout. I've thought about Techron, but that already comes in my gas from the corner Chevron. And a couple of years ago, when gas was really high, people were putting acetone into their tanks.

Does it work? I know that nothing is really a "tune-up in a bottle", nor will it improve your mileage by upwards of 10%. I doubt that you can pour a couple of ounces of "liquid miracle" into your tank, and see instant results. But I think that regular use, over a long-term period, will help keep your fuel system cleaner.

Im not as well versed as many here but after doing some research I chose to go with Red Line injector cleaner after reading where some of the cheaper ones can damage your seals over time. I'll run a about 3 bottles a year through a tank when I take a trip just for good measure and occasionally use Lucas Oil injector cleaner also. I have noticed a slight increase in mileage when using it on trips.

Chevron Techron is the only additive I use and it's recommended by Ford.
