Wtf dmv

So many of you might not know, but I am blind in my right eye.

Today is my 22nd birthday and consequently, the day my license expires. So I went down to my local DMV with all required paperwork and began the renewal process. The lady behind the desk administers the eye exam to me, which I fail. I have 20/200 right, but 20/10 left. She tells me she cannot renew my license. So she gives me a 30 day temporary and a form to take to an optometrist. I called them, its $150 for an eye exam.

So, like all other like minded individuals my age, I turn to the internet. It turns out you can renew online. I type in my info, add my credit card and viola! My new license will be here in 7-10 days

Happy birthday and glad you got it worked out so easily.

Don't even get me started on the DMV...As a general rule, do not go there in person unless it is required.

2 hours? Last time I went, I got there 2 hours before they even opened, was still the 15th person in line and waited 3 1/2 hours total. Finally plowed it to the ground a few months back and made a Walmart sized one. Bout damn time. Half the clowns that work there are on a smoke break at any given time

Raptor, in Texas you can only renew online every other time. So you might have to go back in person next go round.

Is your right eye correctable to 20/40? That's all you need here in MO. Eye exams cost about half that here.

Here once you get it, you don't have to take another test to renew, ever.

Hey as long as you can see well enough to drive (which it sounds like you can, haha) high-five on doing it online!

I live in SC and my dad renewed his online as well but a few weeks ago it was time to renew it again but they denied him online. He had to go in to get his new license because they need to keep the picture up-to-date as well as a few other things like the eye exam so next time you have to get it renewed you might have to do it in person. What state do you live in Raptor?

I've already got it figured out. They have everyone read the same line. When I was in there, 4 people did the test and they all read line 5. Next time, I'll go in, wait until some people do the test so I can make sure they stick to the same line and then either have someone go write down said line or as I'm about to do it, angle it so my left eye peeks in the right eye hole and memorize it really quick.

SODA. Statement of Demonstrated Ability. Basically you fly with an instructor for so many hours and he signs saying you can fly safe. Then the boys from the FAA come and ride with you and they sign you off to get your license.
