New SUV...
I'm sure it’s a quality vehicle but to me I'd rather spend the extra money. I ended up going with a 2011 MKX with all the options since I felt it was the best deal in that segment at the time.
Yup. Turn in man card at the nearest shredder.
Unless the six happen to be in a row, anything less than 8 bores isn't manly.

Still have my 5.0, Hyundai is for the wife, no need for a big bore for her...

Well congratulations, however some of us dont have $60,000 to spend on a second vehicle!

I love how people trash these vehicles. Hyundais have clearly come a long way. They have some of the best looking vehicles out right now and I don't hear of many people unhappy with them. The Sonata is a very nice car as well.
Because people are ignorant and stuck in thier ways. That Hyundai Genisis coupe and 4 door sedan are 2 of the nicest cars on the road!
My mom has an '05 Santa Fe and its been a pretty good car since she bought it new. Only one or two minor issues with it in 7 years. She doesnt even have 60k on it though.
The only issue with it now is the tailgate is rusting along the inside edge and starting to show on the outside a little.
I had an Elantra that I traded in on my truck and it was a great car in the 4 years and 71k I had it but I decided I wanted a truck.

My parents have an 07 (I believe) Santa Fe, and we have an 08 Edge. I prefer absolutely everything about our Edge, especially the room. So far the Santa Fe has been great for my parents, their largest expense has been a set of new tires, everything else has been oil changes. As much as they drive, it only gets a fill up a month!!! As long as you and your wife are happy and it treats ya right, that's all that matters. Congrats on your new vehicle!
When Hyundai first started importing cars in the early 80's, they were total piles of crap. Now, they are some of the most reliable vehicles on the road.
Kia has improved greatly since Hyundai bought them out. Kia sells big in this town because they are comparatively cheap. My stepdaughter bought a new Kia Sorento last year, and it was thousands less than the Hyundai Veracruz it was based on. It's also assembled in the USA. In fact, your new Santa Fe was assembled in that Kia plant.
My granddaughter bought a used 2008 Hyundai Sonata a few months ago, she loves it and hasn't had a lick of trouble with it.

We replaced the wife's Eclipse last summer with a fully loaded 4x2 Hyundai Tucson Limited. We looked at several competing offerings. The 2012 Escape wasn't even a consideration - unless your into the 90's SUV look. We test drove an Edge, and while I liked it a lot more, it also cost 10k+ more comparably equipped. Plus it only gets 15 mpg to the Tucson's 22/31. The Edge is also a class size up - more comparable to the Santa Fe. We've had the Tucson a year now and really like it. It hauls our two dogs just fine.
I had a really hard time justifying 40k+ for an Edge. I really agree with Loaded_FX4 in that it's over priced for what you get. A comparable 40k F150 is MUCH more vehicle. I hope to replace my 2003 FX4 with a 2013 F150 in the not too distant future.

The Tucson is comparible to the ESCAPE which BTW gets 21/31 compare to Tucson 22/31. In the Escape you can also sacrifice 1mpg and get the 2.0 EB and rock 240 hp/ 270.
The Edge vs. Santa Fe. The edge beats the Hyundai in MPG (21/30 vs. 20/28) and that mpg figure is with the Ecoboost motor killing the Korean competitor in power (240hp/ 270lb-ft vs. 175/ 169) Edge even has more power with the V6 (285/253 vs. 276/248)
There is no $10 or 15K differences when shopped closely. The Ford cost a little more, but offers better equipment IMHO. The Korean car has a bigger warranty, but from listening to their forums you'll need it.
Once again, you guys are NOT cross shopping comparible vehicles.

As someone who was a driving age adult when Hyundai's were first introduced in this country, I will never be able to get over the psychological barrier of what wheezing pieces of crap those first vehicles were! They were the kind of vehicle you bought your stepdaughter (the one you didn't like very much) to head off to college in -- the added bonus was that she'd never get a DWI in the thing since it would spend the majority of it's life in the shop.....
I could never buy one because, in my mind, having to purchase a Hyundai as your new vehicle is a sign that your life has been a failure.....

Congrats on your purchase OP! Those Santa Fe's are nice vehicles, no matter how many people want to live in the past and say differently
They may be a foreign car company but their hard work in the past decade or so to make good cars has earned my respect
(P.S. - that goes for the "Big 3" efforts as of late also - cars in general just seem to be getting so much better lately)
