New toy for the summer...Mini Boat.

So i saw one of these found in a storage unit on tv awhile back and thought they were awesome.
These are what they had before jet skis. I did a search on craigslist and found this one not too far from me so i picked it up.

It's an 84 with a 73 18hp 2 stroke evinrude.

My plans for it:

1. Paint it
2. Get a 40hp 2 stroke for it (any recommendations?)
3. Wire up all the lights to get it legal for the lake.
4. put a small marine stereo system in it.

I've seen people say that with a 40hp motor it could see speeds of 40mph or so. that's plenty fast for me in an 8 foot boat.

And I painted it yesterday. I had a gallon of John Deere green paint laying around so i put it in a gun and shot it. I think it looks pretty good. i've still got to wet sand and put another coat today.

40mph in that thing would be scary as hell. Looks fun though. What does it have for a throttle lever? Steering? Can that thing support a 40hp engine?

its got a control box mounted to the right of the driver, I took it off for paint. the steering is just a push pull type deal that attaches to the front of the motor. I think theyre rated up to like a 40 horse but I've seen one with a 50 and heard about one with a 60 that would haul. that being said I dont trust the transom that much so I'm going to cut two 3/16th steel plates and bolt them through it to mount the motor to. it should be good then.

That's pretty cool. 40mph on water is WAY faster than 40mph on land. I bet 40 in that feels more like 90

Get the lightest 40 HP you can find. Lots of mini boat guys run Tohatsu motors. Biggest issue you will find is finding the right prop. Not many speed props for that size motor and that light of a boat.

That thing looks fun as hell!!

My buddy had a mini speedboat thing called a Funjet. It was one seater. Had a jetski engine for propulsion. Controlled with a gass pedal and steering wheel. That thing was sooooooo fun. I wish he still had it.

Yeah i've noticed that. I found an Evinrude Norseman 40hp and i found somewhere online that it said it only weighed like 140 something. that doesn't seem too much. i agree i need to find the lightest possible though.

Funny thing. i was looking searching different things on google and some boat forum threads popped up. on one of them i saw someone posted with your name or one similar. then in his sig i saw it said he had an f-250 so i figured it was you haha.
