I like to think Facebook is a credit card. Respect it and it won't bite you. Those who are unable to do so will find themselves in trouble

I know of a few people that have been fired because of Facebook, and a few that didn't but it came back to bite them in the rear at some point.

Myself on the other hand got into a some what friendly argument about HIDs on FB just the other day. Just can't reason with some peoples kids.

Two week waiting period ?...I'm getting a kick out of how many ways they try to get you to sign back in. That of course cancels your account deletion, -just guessing.

So far, I have about a week left before it permanently deletes. I don't miss it and it's been about 3 weeks. It's weird in a way because you feel somewhat disconnected, but I will not make an account again. I think it's a phase that will eventually go away. It might take some serious privacy issues though that become a wake-up call for people.

I totally agree. I think what most of the people my age (I'm 19) post on facebook is absurd. There are people younger than I who are posting pictures of themselves drinking and such...I can only laugh later down the road when that all catches up to them. As for me, I rarely post anything, but when I do, it's usually about the Crimson Tide rolling over their opponents!!!

Good for you. I wouldn't want to be a member of a site that sells your information. Thats just wrong.

I really do love Facebook, It helped me meet my birth parents. If it wasn't for it, I still may have never met either of them.

Good for you! My parents use Facebook to stay in contact with family and rekindle with friends from their high school. They love it.

Once you open a FB account, there is a browser cookie placed on your machine (no, not in the usual places and no, you can't get rid of it by "deleting Cookies"). This bit of code forces your browser to report to FB, whether or not you're logged in, every web site you visit, every page you look at, how long you look at that page, and anything else you do on that site. Like making a purchase and so on. EVERY THING you do on the internet!

FB does NOT delete anything due to age! Everything you do is recorded forever!

This pretty much sums up the whole internet thing.

Remember... If you're not paying for it, you're not the customer, you're the product being sold!

I don't know, -I had customers that haven't paid and I don't pawn them because of it. But, if it's true what you say, - then I've been compromised. Although, I've never gave them my real info, according to your statement, - that doesn't matter, they must have it by now.

So what do you do, - start life all over again ? Start with closing accounts maybe ? Hell, if they're that good, that wouldn't really make a difference anyway, - they'll find new ones.

Guess I need to look for FB's magical cookie. Wish me luck or, -see yuh in the soup line..

I certainly don't question that you wouldn't sell someone who owes you. The statement I made refers to internet providers. It costs a considerable amount of money to operate a web site that has a large amount of traffic. To assume that a site with the traffic that FB has, the amount of disk storage that is required, the processing power that is required, would be provided at no cost to the users, simply because they're "nice people" is naive to extreme! You must ask yourself why they would do it.

Selling your information is why. Tracking your every move so that companies that want to sell you something can figure out what you would buy is the primary thrust of this racket. That in itself would not be a problem. We are bombarded every day with ads. Why not target them to our likes? This tracking though, eventually leads to a pile of data that can provide a pretty complete picture of a person. By looking at your IP address, I know where you live. By watching everything you do, I could figure out your sex, age group, interests, and many other factors. When you make an online purchase, I have your complete shipping address, billing address, CC number and so on. I also have all the comments you made on my web site (FB). I know, you're going to say your financial transactions are encrypted, and you're right! But... Your information is shared with other companies by the companies involved with your transaction (including the banks). All I have to do is put it all together

I could go on, but I won't. I did some work for a company that did data mining. We took huge piles of computerized data and looked for patterns in it. To amuse ourselves while the computers were sorting and grouping, we would vie with each other to see how much personal information we could get on some poor random person. It was scary even for me!

What to do?
Close your account with FB. (see the link further up)
NEVER click on the "like" button! On ANY web site!
Avoid using Google for your searches. Use Startpage.com instead.
Stop using Internet Explorer. Install and use Firefox and add Ghostry and Adblocker to it.
Don't follow every link you see! Especially the ones that don't show where you're actually going. Like "Click here to see something cool!
Get rid of your gmail and/or Yahoo email accounts!
Don't reply to or send email to anyone who has gmail or yahoo accounts.

Backup your personal data and do a format and fresh install of your operating system to get rid of the (usually) huge bunch of tracking stuff on your machine.

There are other things but, unless you're as paranoid as I am, you can't disappear completely.

One more thing, unless you've done something really, really stupid, don't lose any sleep over it. You're just one person out of millions who are be watched.

So why not just take it ? That would teach me right ? I'm sure people work day and night trying to get this info. If they could, grab it,- as they certainly would be talented enough to cover they're *** afterwards.

I've been a seller/buyer on eBay since 04 and that Paypal has had to much of my info for years. Going bankrupt overnight or at any given moment has proven not to be a concern.. So far, -don't want to sound over confident; there's just a little trust there.

Crap, -just cash out and bury it under the tool shed.

Well, I've done a variation of what you have suggested above. However, I did keep a gmail and a yahoo. That's a small gamble; I don't use them for anything financial. - If desired, I could start with a fresh system everyday, easier than one might think and I use to. Became lazy with starting that way and eventually faded that out. Haven't found a reason to be that paranoid. Not yet.

I realize allot of what your saying and it's VERY true. Cleaning somebody out, hopefully, - is allot more difficult than you made it sound. That's the way I took it anyway. Right, -no stupid mistakes, - that's how you get owned.

Going to sleep now, - if I still have a damn bed.

Crap, never-mind, it's fricken morning... See what yuh did!
