We are not sure he is a spammer, but either way, we're continuing.

I have been married twice, and with both engagement rings I went by the "two month's salary" guideline. The first one, i was working at a fast food restaurant, so it was pretty small, around half a carat. The second one was 4 times bigger but cost over 10 times as much. I had it appraised after I bought it and was happy that it appraised for twice what I paid for it. Not long after I proposed and gave it to her, I told her no upgrades. After only 3 years she already started to ask for an upgrade for our ten year anniversary. Never satisfied.

My girlfriend was asking me what I thought of it one time. She loves pearls and I'm a fish guy so I said it would be fine with me. I guess I'll just recycle the wedding ring I found years ago at the lake. It has enough gold for 4 regular rings and 6 out of 7 diamonds are in good shape.

Strange how often that happens. Spammers are better at starting threads than we are.

I will say what I like. I hate big rings. It's the thought that counts. I would rather have a band then anything. Less likely to lose any stones. I'm very happy with what my man got me.

Vivid I would say think long & hard BEFORE you say I do!!! Stay engaged several years, live together, travel just cover every stressful situation (except kids if you don't already have them) before you say I do. traditionally The ring should be relative to 2 months of salary give or take. But, if your g/f is really that concerned about it, then have her half the cost of what she wants. But, i.m.o, the bragging rights don't come with a material object, more so the man/woman you marry!!! I personally never understood "upgrading" I'll die with my ring the hubby gave me, which I love, when I wear it. I usually just wear my band since my hands are usually messy or in motorcycle gloves.

Best of luck to you vivid & please think about this before you say I do. Any woman willing & wanting you to break your back for her happiness isn't concerned about yours.

We might just take you up on that. I like to ride up that neck of the woods every year...it's beautiful country.

As far as "the Dragon" I agree we have found a few roads up there just as much fun but not near as famous.
The last time we rode the dragon they were pulling up a guy out of a drop that had "failure to negotiate a curve".
He was being air lifted to the closest hospital. All traffic on highway 129 was stopped and blocked for the chopper.
While they were pulling him up, they found someone else that had gone off the side and had been missing for two years.

to keep this on topic *ahemmm*

I shopped with my GF to find a ring we both liked, had to custom order it from a catalog, with an in-store bought diamond. She didnt know when the delivery date was, so i was still able to surprise her with "The Question"

I saved up ahead of time and paid cash on the ring. which was approx 1.5 months salary, not that it was important to me for it to be a certain percentage of my salary. I just had a set amount i was willing to spend (IE cash in hand) so we weren't trying to look out our budget.

From our engagement pics

And all 3 of our rings together from our wedding day (mine's the big one)

I'm 22 and have been married for over 18 months now. (yaya i know way to young...i have a lot to look forward to blah blah blah) I told my wife what I could afford and we went to the jeweler. I got a phone call about some performance mods I was putting on my quad and she had the ring picked out and order before I got done with the call. Didn't spend to much and she gets compliments from lots of people saying how beautiful the ring is.

patman, ha sorry, I love bikes about as much as my truck, back on subject. Has anybody on here ordered a ring from an online source? The hubby ordered mine from online & it was about 1500$ cheaper than a jewelry store. He was a nervous wreck until it arrived.

Yes, got mine from Fancydiamondinc.com. Great service, excellent quality. I got the ring appraised as soon as it arrived and it appraised for over twice what I paid for it. We ordered a matching wedding band from them and it was a perfect match and great quality as well. I recommend them.

The reason I bought from them, months before, the (then) girlfriend and I were just goofing around on the internet and came upon the site. She saw the ring and said it was perfect, so I knew exactly what she wanted and ordered it from them a few months later. It worked out great! She is very happy with it.

X2 The actitud of your girlfriend is totally against a good relationship.

My wife and I were 19 when we got married. I was 18 when I bought the ring. There was a jeweler at our church that had retired, closed his shop, that still had some inventory at home. I went to his house to see what he had. I selected a small solitaire diamond and he charged me $60. That was about all the money I had. She was very happy with it and still is. Has never wanted an upgrade during the 49 years we have been married, though there has been other jewelry over the years.

As others have stated, if she is already demanding "more", I would count my blessings for the revelation and run as fast as I could.
