Drove past several fires between Athens and Murchison on the way home last night. A couple of homes burned and some out buildings. Smoke still in the air this morning. They lost one home at Canton, so I heard.

Damn. I wish they had a way of a bus or something. Florida has A LOT of volunteers just sitting around.

Fema has been turning away firefighters and volunteers in typical federal government fashion. They have to "set up shop" before anyone can fight fires... Good ol Governor Good Hair and Fema making things "right" again... Just like Katrina.

I'm just waiting for them to threaten to take guns away... lol.

From the Texas Forestry:

A significant number of aircraft have been mobilized to assist with the heavy fire activity. Six heavy airtankers, three 1,500-gallon scoopers, 15 single-engine airtankers, 12 helicopters, and 12 aerial supervision aircraft are in place. Eight National Guard Blackhawk and three Chinook helicopters have been providing critical aerial support. In addition, a 12,000-gallon DC-10 airtanker will be activated Friday morning at the Austin-Bergstrom Airport. This aircraft was instrumental in helping to contain Wildcat Fire in Coke County last April.

They're reporting 30% containment on the Bastrop fire

Yes that aircraft is what finally got the wildcat fire under control, I had to deal with that fire, got within 3 miles of the house. But the wind shifted and it headed back north into coke county(ranch land). Then 2 weeks later another fire broke out south of the house and got within a mile before the volunteer fire dept got it out.
