Pic a friend sent at Tahitian Village and Hwy 71. They have been told they lost everything but are not allowed to get any closer than the pic. She said they are now evacuating the entire town of Bastrop. The fire has spread and is now 16 miles wide and 6 miles deep. Winds are expected to be out of the northeast at 15-20. They are calling for all retired firemen to please help and any off duty firemen to please help. They are several hundred folks short and those that have been fighting this monster are getting tired. Fire units from all over Texas have equipment on the way. And still no rain in sight.

Just found out that school has been cancelled tomorrow for my wife (teacher) and little boy in Magnolia. I was heading up there this evening to grab some BBQ at one of my favorite joints and got turned around at FM 1488 by the local blue. Went with "Plan B" at a joint down in Tomball and when I walked in the TV was on CNN and they were showing the extent of the fire......

Given how dry it is down here I'm surprised that we haven't had more of this.....

I drove from Little Rock to Dallas and back this weekend. It was unbelievable how dry it was out there. I could also not believe how skinny the cows were. It's gonna be a rough year for beef prices.

All of you in Texas----BE SAFE.

If you are close to any of the fires have a bug-out plan and be ready. Pictures, cash, and legal papers including insurance papers, just about everything is replacable.

Take care!

I was on Lake Travis on Sunday and you could see a fire on both sides of the lake, we got back to the house boat and my uncle got a call saying there were 300 houses destroyed so far, and the neighborhood before his was evacuated just incase. Sad to see all these homes destroyed.

It's burning all around us, there were at least 10+ fires that I know of in our county alone. We all hope and pray that they get it under control, as of now Bastrop fire is 0% contained and has burned 30,000 acres and destroyed aprox 600 homes.

Anybody with livestock they need to get out, I've got phone numbers of ranches willing to take them and phone numbers of folks with trailers willing to haul them- from a 10 horse trailer to 18 wheelers. Cass county has requested anybody with large earth moving equipment that would like to help, call the Texas Forestry Service and they will be glad for the help.
And folks ask what makes a Texan special. Stand back and watch as this Texas family of millions takes on these fires.
