Our dog got a frog

this morning i let out our 4 dogs and about 30 mins later opened the door to let them back in and one dog had a frog cornered in the yard. i yelled at the dog and she came to me and was foaming at the mouth . i got all the other dogs in and gave her some water and after a few minutes she stopped foaming at the mouth. should i be concerned? Anyone else ever had to deal with this before?

Thanks

If she seems OK, she probably is. It was likely a toad, and some, like the Colorado River Toad and the Sonoran Desert Toad have a toxin on their skin that can be somewhat harmful to dogs.

I think, if you are at all concerned, you should call your Vet. I'm sure this is not a unique occurrence.

The toads pee in the dogs mouth. It does not taste good, and they foam a bit trying to get rid of it. SDhould be fine unless they acually eat the toad. Then it can make them sick. Maggie knows what is going to happen, but she can not resist grabbing toads and shaking them. She then looks at me as if, why did he do that?

Identify the species of frog and call your local vet......

But I think the dog will be alright.....

Edit..... . However, all frogs/toads have skin secretions/mild toxins that taste nasty and may make an animal salivate excessively after biting or licking the frog/toad. The strategy is to educate (not kill) a predator so it will not mess with the frog/toad again. These secretions can also irritate human skin and eyes, so wash hands after touching frogs/toads.

She seemed ok, not her regular self but was acting alright. I called the vet and they said its normal not to worry about it... Still not to sure, ive been reading on the internet and some peoples dogs have died when they ate or bit the toad.

Our dog got a frog
It rhymes! Sounds like a good basis for a country/western song!

Since we're talking about frogs, back when I was just a kid in the mid-1970's I collected beer cans as a hobby. One can that I always wanted in the worst way was "Bullfrog Beer", which was brewed in the late-1950's by Monarch Brewing Company in Chicago. I even went so far as to ask my parents for one for Christmas -- much to my mother's chagrin.....

Well, this summer I decided that it was time to fulfill at least one of my childhood dreams, so I got on ebay and started searching for the Bullfrog beer can I had so lusted over back in the day. Well, last week I finally found one from a guy out in Las Vegas that was in excellent condition, so I broke down and bought it! Dang thing cost me $75.00, but hey -- how can you put a dollar figure on a childhood dream.....

I once had a dog that would sit on a log in the fog with a frog.

The day after that I saw Osama on a llama chasing Obama.
