Wonder if this could kill GM

They say they are not responsible for repairing anything prior to their bankruptcy. Will anyone buy from them again.

My wife at the time, decided she wanted a new 1976 Chevy Monza. It was a cute little car, 4 banger with a 5 speed manual. I had wire wheels put on it and wide tires right after we took delivery. In the next 6000 miles, the head gasket blew 5 times with the engine ingesting all of the coolant. The last time I drove it into the dealership, the engine locked up as I drove in. In the first year of ownership, the dealer had the car 8 1/2 months waiting for parts. The last time we went to pick it up, the service manager said never bring it back because they were not going to work on it again. They brought it out to us on the front end of a wrecker as the battery was dead. You couldn't see out of the glass because it was so dirty. The white leather seats were covered in grease. Three things happened that day. I never went back to Smith Chevrolet in San Antonio, It was the last GM product I would ever buy, the car got cleaned as soon as we left the dealership, I bought her a new Cougar. If GM folded tomorrow, I'd get drunk in celebrating....and I don't drink. GM management is the lowest form off life as far as I'm concerned. No wonder my bud Ed Whitacre left running the place. I can assure you he would not have put up with that BS.

THAT, is a company I would never have dealings with again! So much for "trust in the private sector".

I had forgotten all about the Monza, I can't even recall seeing one in the last twenty years.
My roommate in the Army had a new '76 Monza hatchback and I coveted that car and it's new car smell.
At that time I was a financial basketcase.
My purchases never concerned whether a nameplate read Ford or Chevy.
I just asked if she was blowing blue smoke or white smoke.

I've always said the only way I would own another GM product is if they healed the scars on my hands from fixing their junk, paid me for all the time I spend fixing their junk, repaid the government fully (like the would want me to do if i was to purchase their junk) and gave me the vehicle as a symbol of their good will and changed ways.

Now I would take the car straight to the crusher.

When I was young I liked most all brands but seemed to lean towards Chevrolet. My dad was a Chevy man so when I turned 16 back in 1986 he bought me my first car which was a 1975 Chevy Monza for $300. It needed a little work but hey, I was happy to have my first car. I went through a couple of other older cheaper Chevys over the next couple of years so when I got my first decent paying job I thought I would treat myself to a brand new 1989 Chevy S-10. BIG MISTAKE!!!!! I could only stand it for about 1 year. It was in the shop most of the time in that 1 year as it was plagued with electrical problems. They first wanted to blame me for the stereo system I put in it. I was young and I think they thought they could push me around. When that didnt work they just fixed it no problem everytime the computer would go out. 6 times in 1 year!! Not to mention the other issues. Chevrolet was no help to me and unfortunately that was before the Ohio lemon law. I have never forgotten that whole saga and have never considered another GM product since. I am not a brand hater but I never see myself buying another GM. I'm not gonna say I have never had issues with some of the Fords I have owned but nothing like that S-10.

Just my story and my $.02

I should show this to my father, he has an 08 Tahoe for his company vehicle all of our company P/U's (13) are Silverados at the moment. If I have anything to do with it the company will not puchase another GM product after reading that.

I hate cars, so I don't have much to worry about. IMO Ford and GM both suck at making cars. Okay the crown vics are dependable, but they are BASIC.

I agree that older Ford cars weren't exactly "up to par" with other manufactures but the last couple of years they really stepped up and have a very nice line of cars.

1976 monza, along with everthing from from 1976 was junk. maybe you should have bought her a pinto.

all car companies have issues and more important bean counter.

i swore i would never buy a 5.4 engine after mine spit a spark plug and that was an 01 model and no i havent purchased a ford product since.
i will be getting a new truck at the end of this year and with no 5.4 offered, it will probably be a ford. about the time i got mad at ford someone else got mad at GM or dodge,

so No, warranty claims on 07 and 08 impallas will not kill GM, just as the firestone tire issue and trucks catching on fire, spark plug problem and the 70's pinto did not kill Ford.

The difference is GM is still weak. Although if someone is in the market for a new car what difference does it make to them if GM isn't honoring their warranty from before the bankruptcy. The company isn't bankrupt now.
