I would love a new Ranger. I really don't need a F150, kind of too big for me. All I do is occasional runs to Lowes, etc. Only reason I don't have one now is that the Ranger hasn't really changed since 1999 when I had a reg cab 3.0 V6. But for now my neighbor lets me borrow his 2010 F250 whenever I need it

Just purchase one, if you really want it. Doesn't require that many connections.

Sad to see the Ranger go...I had two myself and they were both great little trucks. Wonder why Ford hasnt done anything to them in about 10 years? I was looking at them a few months ago and the price was rediculous. Back in 94 a brand new ext cab ranger was maybe $13,000. Last one i looked at was a 2010 single cab 2wd and the sticker was 24k

He's just a really good dude, we hang out all the time, have BBQ's, etc.

When I bought my Mustang GT a couple years ago he gave me the keyless entry code to his then F150 XL and said "Borrow it whenever you need to, you won't be able to haul crap in that cop magnet" So about 2 months ago he gets his F250 and its a Lariat FX4 with Navi, back up camera, etc and I said well I guess I won't be borrowing your truck anymore jokingly and he said "The codes the same as on my old one, I just changed it, only now you gotta start putting gas in it"

I told him he could borrow the Mustang whenever he needs to, but his wife has a BMW 3 series hardtop convertible so I doubt he ever will.

Emissions requirements as well as the stupid Chicken Tax.

Funny story. The refinery here in town is apparently one of the few that can produce ULSD and CARB compliant gasoline. We import crude from Venezuela, refine it, dump it on a tanker and send it to California. The fuel we burn here? Comes off a tanker from Europe.

Ford's official party line is that they decided not to redesign the Ranger in favour of an EcoBoost F-150. Yet, there are still people that would prefer a smaller truck over the F-150. But, on the same hand, the Dakota, Colorado/Canyon and Tacoma have all gotten bigger than the Ranger over the years. Ford would have to make a significant investment to develop a new platform for the North American market. Mind you, it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to take the "world Ranger" and tool up a factory here to produce it. Put in the Duratec line for a 4-banger and a V6 as well as optional EcoBoost and they'd be set.

I think 2011MY Sport models are going for around $16-18k here. And that's for ext cab and 4WD.

When I went to trade my 96 F150 in I was looking at Rangers since I don't necessarily need an F-150. If I had gotten one it was going to be a 4.0 and there was no sense in getting one the since the F-150 has more room and gets about the same mpg. If this diesel would have been an option there's a good chance I would have gotten one.

I'll be keeping my truck until one of the following two hits the market

I would buy one today if I had the option here. But from the looks of it, I'll be keeping my truck for a LONG time.

I figure why buy a smaller truck when you can get the same or better gas mileage in a bigger more capable truck. 20k for a 4x4 4.0 ranger with 14 city and 18 highway, or 25k for a 5.4 liter V8 that gets 14 and 19 mpg. and honestly with about a grand in upgrades, you can raise the mileage much higher on the 5.4. I regularily get 21 to 22 mpg highway on my truck. seems like more bang for you buck in an f150.

Every one I have talked to from truckers down to guys like me with diesel P/U's say the fuel quality has gone down hill in the last ten years and its the reason why the MPG's fell into the basement. The fuel may come from Europe but it is made to North American standards for import. It's just like the nails you buy to build a house, everything is made in Asia and put in boxes for all the different companies in only 3-4 plants and they are made to our building standards for import. It's all a shell game, and most people have no clue and don't care where the stuff comes from as long as it shows up on a truck for them to buy and consume on a fairly regular basis.
