Real Life Hollywood "U.S Navy Seal"

Rev. Jim Moats, a 59-year-old pastor at the Christian Bible Fellowship Church in Newville, Pa., was exposed after The Patriot-News interviewed him for a story about life in the elite SEAL fighting force.

............

Shipley added that Moats' claims to have been assigned to kitchen duty and to have been waterboarded were lifted from the Steven Seagal movie "Under Siege," while Moats' reference to being hit by SEAL instructors was vintage "GI Jane."

Disgusting, one more attempt at empty pursuits for security and self-acceptance failed. Why is image so, so important that you have to cheat, steal and lie in order to be able to cherish self-promotion? What is so important to cherish our "specialness" to the point one has to go to extremes and invest in shameless self-motion? Is it because we live in a culture that doesn’t understand the essence of grace and love?

Please, I beg you to believe me when I say, it is not my intention to accuse Jim Moats and others like him that Christians are lairs. But I'm trying to understand, what kind of gospel do you proclaim when your leaders, (I mean YOUR LEADER!) is so afraid to admit error, be real, and be nothing?

What baffles me the most is that the question of the day (Why would a pastor "LIE"!?) ISN'T an inquisitive question to their followers. But an answers their followers use as fact, despite evidence proves "wolf in sheep's clothing"!

Your thought?

Why, would that make what Jim Moats did acceptable ?

If it is acceptable for Moats to lie about what he did in the military ( in disrespect to what those who really were SEALs ) is it OK for him to lie to the congregation about say collecting for a worthy cause, where in actuality he is collecting for a trip to Atlantic City ?

I have told many lies especially when I attempted to avoid being tortured by my mother, professor and priest. But as I matured the amount of lies diminished as I got a better and clear understanding that one lie will lead to another lie and a bigger lie until I'm exposed. I now rely strongly on "the truth shall set me free".

To answer your question directly, Yes I have lied, BUT,.....the big deference between me and the question/s I posed is that I'm NOT a Ten Commandment activist ordering an entire country to abide by said set of rules.

Your point is? I too am a liar and I should STHU?

You're reading way too much into my question.

He who is without sin, let him cast the first stone, was my only point.

I can assure you the pastor is facing public humiliation for his public lie.

I have two points to make: One is that we all are sinners, and that even pastors sin from time to time. The other is that we should all examine ourselves before casting stones.

If we must all examine ourselves before throwing the first stone we will find out that we are all sinners too.

If we are all sinners then we shouldn't cast any stones.

Therefore according to your logic, it is unfair that we publicly humiliate Rev. Jim Moats?

I think his professed faith is irrelevant. There have been people pretend to be doctors, lawyers, charity workers etc etc.......essentially a con and often for financial gain. What this guy did was disgusting and he should be very ashamed. I'm not trying to judge but my guess is he was pretending to be a "pastor" as much as he was pretending to be an ex navy seal.

If he was not a con then he seriously has a mental problem! Either way I don't see how religious beliefs had anything to do with it. Why would anyone make that up? OG I think you answered your own question when you said "wolf in sheeps clothing".

I fail to see why this is even worthy of a thread on a truck site unless it's another swipe at the Christian faith and if that's all ya got, you need to get a life.

There have been plenty of cases within the past couple of years about guys faking military records. I don't recall hardly any threads about them. I saw this story on the news this morning and as soon as they said he was a pastor, I knew someone on here would post it to take another swipe at Christianity. Its funny though because I never see threads about all the bad stuff Muslims do under the shield of their religion. Just google all the stuff that Salafist are doing in Egypt "in the name of Allah". If Christian bashers want to continually bash someone for their beliefs, expand their outrage to other faiths. Christianity isn't the only game in town, as they say...

This dude is a con artist and a scum bag, plain and simple. Who knows what his real beliefs are.
