You have made a very good point to those who think that taxes are all evil, but to me you are fighting over something I already agree with or at least see the point in. Now, gas prices are crazy, just I didn't want people to think that foreign oil is the only reason they are high.
Gas prices aren't just the result of taxes nor are they the result of foreign oil or supply/demand.

Certainly we need more refineries but it isn't like the 1970's where we have gas lines going on. There is enough gasoline. The individual stations aren't making money either. Credit card fees eat up most if not all of their profit.

I still pin the fault on speculators. Most of them buy up futures with no intent to receive them nor any ability to receive them. It is solely to make money.

Think of it like that hot toy every kid wants at Christmas. You have a few people (probably the ones working at the stores) buying up all the supply and then listing it on Craigslist/eBay for 10x the cost.

While there is a supply and demand there...someone is creating a bottleneck in supply and running the cost up because they know they will get it.

Same thing is happening to our fuel prices.

Is there anything Obama can do about it? Not really unless he can get laws passed that will curb the speculators which I don't see passing in the house very easily.

2011 vs 2010 Federal Income Tax Brackets, Rates and Taxable Income Thresholds. Standard Deduction Increase
by ANDYS2I · 57 COMMENTS

[Updated Jan 2011] President Obama and Congress have approved a two year extension to all the Bush-era tax cuts. This means that the 2011 federal IRS tax rates will be the same as 2010 rates, shown in the table below. However tax bracket ranges and standard deduction levels have increased slightly due to low inflation. A rise in tax rates would have cut the after-tax pay by $3,000 for the average tax payer, so the tax rates extension is worth a lot given current economic conditions. However, the extension is only for 2 years and unless the economy really tanks, don’t look for these to be extended again in 2013.

Notable changes between 2010 and 2011 Taxes:

- The value of each personal and dependent exemption, available to most taxpayers, is $3,700, up $50 from 2010.

- The new 2011 standard deduction is $11,600 for married couples filing a joint return, up $200, $5,800 for singles and married individuals filing separately, up $100, and $8,500 for heads of household, also up $100. The additional standard deduction for blind people and senior citizens is $1,150 for married individuals, up $50, and $1,450 for singles and heads of household, also up $50. Nearly two out of three taxpayers take the standard deduction, rather than itemizing deductions, such as mortgage interest, charitable contributions and state and local taxes.

- Tax-bracket thresholds increased slightly for each filing status as shown in the above table.

- Key Dates for 2010-2011 Tax season:

The IRS begins accepting e-file – January 11, 2011
W-2’s due to employees (unless IRS exemption provided) – January 31, 2011
Tax Filing Deadline or request for extension– April 18, 2011
I will continue to provide updated tax information when released by the IRS and encourage you to subscribe (free) via Email or RSS to get the latest news.

Are taxes really lower? Bush cut income taxes but never cut spending infact he increased simply printed up money instead of taxing. That lowered the value of the dollar to the point that it now takes about $1 to buy what .50 cents used to when he took office. I'm all for not paying taxes but hard choices have to be made. If you cut the tax rate you have to match it with spending cuts. If you cant cut spending you HAVE to raise taxes or its only a mater of time before the economy collapses completely. Every one of us pay for those Bush tax cuts every time we go to the store or buy gas or spend any money. Eventually the dollar is going to be like the peso if spending is not cut and taxes not raised.

Being a socialist is gaining popularity in this country. You know, the whole Joe the plumber-redistribute the wealth thing? Hell, you've had socialist and communist groups marching in Washington DC with that rotund, beet red faced libtalker from MSNBC.
