My wife has a 2008 and she likes it. It has the V6 and gets around 21 mpg. It does ride a little rougher than my 2007 F150 SCrew. We always take my truck on road trips because of the ride and also I feel safer in a bigger vehicle. There have been no major issues with the car. She got it for the better gas mileage than the Durango she used to have. I hope this helps you out.

We just recently got an 05. It is great. No problems whatsoever.
My Grandma has a '10. Also flawless.

The only problems I've heard of are the transmissions in the early models.

My sister used to have an 08. With the V6 it got around 20mpg or or. It had plenty of power as well. Could easily spin the front tires on dry roads any time you wanted to.

That actually cost me a ticket one day when I had to borrow it.

Just got a 2011 Xls 4cyl, had it for 2wks so far so good. We took a 4hr round trip today and was pretty good ride. Mpg is 20.1 per the on board readout, but we also only have 1,600 miles on it right now. My wife loves it so far.

We have an 08' in our fleet. It's an xlt with the 3.0 v6 and 4wd. It's been a great lil family suv. As others have said, we average around 20-21 mpg and it ranks very high in safety ratings. In 09' they switched from the old 4 speed auto (which some say is problematic) to a 6 speed automatic.

Most surprising to me is the 4wd (all wheel drive really) system. It has always done great in the snow. Two winters ago we got walloped with a few blizzards, 30+" in one storm. I took the Escape out around in the neighborhood to see how it would do. That thing plowed thru snow no problem with some drifts coming over the hood.

Everyone I know that's had one has had good luck with them. Whatever small problems my mom had on hers was covered under warranty early, otherwise it was great. Myself, the old lady got a 06 Explorer and it is nice, v-8 too! The Escape may be cramped for space in the rear, like for strollers etc so the Explorer worked for us, plus I'm 6'6" tall.

Friend just had a 02 ( 03?) give up ( they are not the best for vehicle maint ), it had 140K miles on it. She could/would not really tell me what happened, so I think it was end user error that caused it's death ( thinks a dipstick is what you call someone. ). Top it off, she got it used, so the PO treatment was unknown.

This was a true case of drive it like you rented it and it put up with it.
The weekday commute it was put through was 85 miles round trip ( geographically challenged house location ).

2010 here for the wife and we love it (XLT 4cyl 2WD).

Gets about 28 mpg from southwest Va to Baltimore, @ 75 mph through lots of hills.
