1) I addressed the OP's statement that VZW is no longer offering an "Unlimited" data option. No where in this discussion did I ever claim this plan was truly unlimited. It's not, nor has it ever been. Hence my statement:

 

During the announcement of the iPhone coming to Verizon, their CEO made it clear that the CDMA iPhone is not exusive to Verizon. Of course this leads to the iPhone possibly going to Sprint and T-Mobile. Sprint's CEO has no comment. When CEOs start clamming up, there is usually something in the pipeline. 2011 is shaping up to be an interesting year for Apple and its iPhone.

 

By calling it unlimited your claiming its unlimited, when in fact it is 5gb per month. You can try and say well that's Verizon "unlimited" plan, but your still being deceitful just like Verizon is.

By calling it Unlimited I am calling it what Verizon Wireless named it. Plain and simple. I don't understand what you don't get about that. I did not create the plan nor did I title it, Verizon Wireless did.

 

i thought vzw's unlimited plan meant that after you hit 5GB, your connection will slow significantly. I could be wrong. Thats how Cricket does it for their wifi cards. You get an 'unlimited' data package, but after you go over 5GB in a month, your speed is cut in half.

Nothing has changed with my contract, plan or whatever.

Still get my new every two and unlimited data.

Maybe you had to be a good customer for those perks, dunno.

I just looked at my account and it still says "New Every Two" and still says I have unlimited data.

 

I am pretty sure the new every two program is over, however, what is the big deal? So people don't get an extra 30 bucks off an already subsidized phone? If you lived in Europe, that shiney new smart phone would cost you 500 or 600 bucks. Here in the US, they subsidize the cost of the phone, so they can get more subscribers. If you don't keep it for a year and a half, VZW, Sprint, etc lose money.

As for the unlimited data, it is still available, and I don't see that changing. People just think that because ATT did it that VZW is going to. I don't see it happening, just think of how many Droid users that would **** off. Although, if they do it, it will probably be on new contracts as of the launch date, so current customers would still be unlimited until they renew.

Whole lot of misinformation in this thread.

In a nutshell:

Verizon is taking away the New Every Two. This program was a loyalty thing, every two years you got a phone at two-year prices, plus an extra amount of money off. Now, you will still get a phone every two years at the two-year price, just missing the extra discount.

Verizon is taking away the Annual Upgrade. This program was also loyalty based. If you were on a certain $$ rate plan or higher, you were allowed to every 12 months, get a phone at the two-year price when signing a new, two-year contract. This worked well for Verizon, as if you wanted to have the "latest and greatest" for cheap, they always had you under contract.

Verizon has UNLIMITED data for smartphones. There is no 5GB cap in place. They don't throttle your speeds if you go over that. There are no overage charges for going over that amount. The only issue is if you get into lost of torrent use, or the like. They WILL throttle that, and have the right to terminate service if it's abused.

Verizon does have data caps for USB modems. There are 3 GB, 5 GB, and 10 GB caps. Makes sense, really, as laptops can use a ton more data than a smartphone, so they cap it.

Sprint, DOES, in fact charge $10/month more for data plans for 4G-enabled phones, REGARDLESS of whether or not the user is in a 4G-capable area. Cut and dry, really.

 

how many people go over 5GB though? for most, 5GB is probably as good as unlimited.

 

Do you not understand that it is not going to change until you renew next time, existing customers will get it 1 more time. You have I believe 6 months after TODAY the 16th of january to use your final upgrade.

I used 8gb last month without tethering my phone, its not that hard with these new phones.

i'm going to call BS. I stream internet radio 10 hours a day at work, tether my laptop on the weekends, watch movies using Blockbuster's mobile app, and I have yet to exceed 4GB of data use.
