Change your own oil in Wisconsin?

My friend found this and forwarded it on. Looks like Wisconsin is banning more stuff. First smoking, now this:

Wow, banning throwing away toxic, carcinogenic and hazardous waste in household trash. Sounds like a good idea to me.

What are you getting upset about, all you have to do is take the old filter with you now when you do an oil change. Doesn't even require a special trip.

I never thought of taking them in to be recycled. Now I will. I usually just store the used oil in old windshield washer fluid bottles in the garage until I manage to get enough stuff together to make a yrip over to the dump.

last I checked, oil is a bio product... obviously, the stuff that make up the filters aren't. I didn't realize this was a problem up here.

this is more of a warning for people in wisconsin, a heads up I suppose.

i have no problem with it.

Face palm. I thought it was common sense to not put your oil filter in the trash? Don't see how they're "banning" you from changing your own oil.

Yeah, banning dumping oil and filters. That is being banned. Not changing your oil.

I was always told it was a no-no to throw your oil filter away. We always recycle that stuff.

Good for Wisconsin. I'm all for changing my own oil, but I make sure I dispose of everything properly. I take my used motor oil and filters to the recycle center in my town.
