My first car was a 1966 Mustang.

I liked it a lot (when it ran).

Since then, Mustangs never appealed to me.

I also never got the Shelby Cobra. Never thought it was good looking, just never understood what the fuss was about.

But then . . .

for some unknown reason . . .

and without explanation . . .

I find myself wanting this:

The interior is crap. It handles like a cow (which is actually kind of fun), but suddenly the exterior of this thing (especially the nose) looks freaking awesome to me.

Plus, 550 hp and 510 lb-ft. of torque . . . awesome.

Must be a midlife crisis thing.

Ever since 1967, a GT500 has been a known cure.

FWIW, when I was in high school (graduated in '80), there was a gal who had a '67 GT500 as her daily driver. It was in Nightmist Blue, with white stripes and Magnum 500 wheels, just like the pic I posted. She told me it had the 427.

Never looked under the hood, but the car was beautiful. My favorite car in the parking lot to drool over. Some of my friends were partial to an immaculate '69 Z/28 that belonged to another kid.

You talking quality or design? If you mean quality I have never heard that before about the GT500s. I sat in one last month and was blown away at how much better the quality, in both fit & finish and material used was compared to my 07 GT. Of course mines not a GT500 but even the 2011 regular GTs blow away the 05-09s as far as interior goes. Haven't really heard to much complaining over at the mustang forums either. To each his own.....

 

Procharge a regular GT and youll be about even with a stock GT500 and youll save $10k+.

Ive seen a Procharged GT run better times at the track than a stock GT500.

 

I don't know if you are smoking crack or what (the OP). I drive a 2011 GT 5.0, which looks very simliar to the pic, but no Shelby effects. Are you telling me that you drive a F-150 and think the Shelby handles like a cow and handles like crap? Please.

I will argue that my 2011 Brembo will outhandle a 2010 GT 500 and likely be equalt to or better than a 2011 with the SVTPP package. However, both are superior to most vehicles out there, except exotics and far more expensive sports cars.

With respect to the interior, my GT is equal to or better than the 2010 F-150 Lariat I had. And the F-150 damn sure wouldn't do 0-60 in 4.3 seconds, or for that matter, 60-0 in 108 feet.

 

I like 'em, but minus the stripes. Saw one on a car carrier last week.

Thanks for allowing me my opinion. You're talking about relative quality vs. older Ford vehicles. That's not exactly the highest standard to compare against. Better than something that wasn't all that good to begin with doesn't say much.

Compared to Porsches, Audis, et al. it's nothing to write home about. (It is better that the crap interior of a Corvette however, so it has that going for it.) Compared to my Lexus, the interior is crap. It all depends on your point of view. Would that keep me form buying one? Nope. I traded in my LS for an Xterra because where I moved to we have lousy weather and lots of unpaved roads and off-road conditions. Is the interior of the Xterra any good? Nope. Did I buy it anyways. Yup, because for what it is intended for, it's a great vehicle. Same thing with the GT500. Looks great on the outside, awesome engine, interior functional. Good enough. There's a reason it's only 50 some odd thousand and not 100 grand.


Please what? No, I don't drive an F150, although I had have owned two Lightnings at various times. I'm not comparing the handling characteristics to a truck. If that's your criterion then I'm sure you think it's the greatest handling car ever built.

Compared to other sports cars that have sophisticated suspensions, the GT500 is seriously lacking.

Does it have a fully independent rear suspension? Nope

It has a live axle, (which is partly why it's so fun), but seriously, when was the last time you saw a sports cars that has a live rear axle?

Answer: about 100 years ago.
Reason: It provides handling that's about as precise as trying to steer a cow.

(Yes, I'm exaggerating. It's called hyperbole. Look it up.)

It's great for going fast in a straight line. The engine is incredible. But it's a cow. A really good looking, powerful, cow.

But that's okay. Don't get upset. I still want one.


Now you're talkin'. Compared to real sports cars it's using 1970s technology. Again, that's okay.
