If i was in a platoon of 20 riflemen and I knew that we could see combat one day, where my life could depend on the actions of one of the other guys, I want to make dang sure that I get along with them and that he doesnt feel that I discriminate against him because he's gay. I am simply not going to have the confidence in him that I would normally have with a 'normal' troop.

I will be the first to raise my hand and say that yes...I am a homophobe, I cannot stand to be around gay men. I am not politically correct. I dont think that they should be executed or cast out of America or anything like that. I am simply prejudice against them because it is wrong. Ive said it to a gay man's face before. Gay men have no place in the military simply because it forces straight men to accept them. Isn't that being intollerant of straight men's rights??

Your entire "argument" is about feelings. The majority of Congress, Americans, and service members want this to happen.
They do? I haven't seen or heard anything that would indicate that.

Further, re: your "promotion of marriage" B.S., so what if we allow gays to marry? How does that hurt you? We let interracial couples marry (very similar situation).
Inter-racial vs. homosexual marrage are not the same thing. The purpose of marrage is to create a family, ya know-Dad-Mom-Kids. So the news flash is inter-racial couples have the ability to do that. Now on the other hand Neil and Bob can't.

Who cares about the straight people that don't join? I thought this wasn't about emotion?
Silly me I thought you were talking about equality, I guess it is about special rights for-what is it-3 to 6% of the country.

Nice try.

actually if you do a little research a higher percentage of service members are currently against gay's in the military, thats a pretty bold statement you made. How many times does it need to be said, race and sexual preference are not the same and cannot be compared, Jggr hit the nail on the head.

By that logic though they've been doing it since they let women, blacks, Hispanics or any other minorities in the military.

I mean I could continue pasting it and changing the type of person, but no matter how you compare it discrimination is discrimination. Personally I don't care if Sgt. Cupcake hangs out with on the weekends as long as he keeps me from coming home in a first class seat and a flag draped over my body.

Wow. You're jumping to conclusions for me. Nothing you said holds any substance.

I would have no problem fighting along side a black/asian/indian man.
Now, women? Different subject. I'd be more uncomfortable with a woman in a foxhole than a gay man who knows how to fight.

Just a thought. if i were hispanic or black, and you told me you considered being gay as the same as my skin color and ancestry, I think I would be a bit pissed.

I was just using it as an example. Women fight to be treated as equals among men in the military, they receive the same training as men. Do they go to the same place for basic training as an OSUT soldier, but basic training is the same across the board. Its when we let an individual slide based on race/gender/religion/sexual preference that they weaken the link. Don't get me wrong I can't stand having to go back behind a female Soldier and verify that her work was done right because she doesn't have the *** to torque a tire down, but I've had the same issue with male Soldiers.

Where does the Constitution say the US govt can dictate every aspect of private lives?

BJ, what about desegregation then? People had the same issues with minorities.

it doesnt but "whatever they want" is a very broad and incorrect statement. And concerning the military, when you sign the enlistment papers, you sign over some of these rights so yes, more aspects of our lives are controlled so you are once again, wrong.

Zactly! I guess maybe that is what they don't understand, the standards in the military are much different than civilian life and should be.

I know that if I had served, I would have wanted all weak, gay, and unable people to kindly step aside and those who can function properly take care of the job.

Excuse me, Greenie, but I guess you have never heard of Baron Von Steuben? An accused homosexual that helped instill discipline into our troops and win the Revolutionary War? Nah---he was just "weak, gay, and unable..."

There is another very practical reason NOT to allow openly homosexual men into the military - AIDS.

According to the CDC, gay men are 50 times more likely to contract AIDS. It's a combination of the homosexual lifestyle and the actual gay sex act (**** sex).

It should be clear how this can and will affect the military, especially in combat zones.

the fact that many of you arguing for the DADT have never served your country because you aren't man enough to step forward is even more reason why you shouldn't be afforded the opportunity to speak up on this topic...

it'd be like me jumping into the stereo section and trying to claim why one brand is better than another becaue I like the sound of the name

and Shosty, if homosexuals can be biased against straights but not vice versa than equal opportunity doesn't come into play on the side of the homosexuals and therefor violates the basic freedoms of the straights (which you claim must happen so the homosexuals don't feel out of place)

this is the same reason our country hasn't ended the war on drugs and the North Korea situation we are so worried about hurting someone elses feelings that we as a country have forgotten the simple reason we became a country in the first place
