You ever check out Invicta or Stuhrling original?

I've got a few Invictas and a Stuhrling and love all of them

I was given a gold Seiko about 20 years ago. I never wear the darned thing (I hate watches.) and didn't even bother to have it fitted to my wrist. Do old watches ever really gain any worth?

It depends on a lot of things.

Here's some good points:

1. Movement - If it's battery operated quartz using some cheap movement, it won't be worth much. If it is a mechanical (manual wind or automatic winding), and it is a supierior movement like a Valjoux 7750 movement for example, expect the watch to be worth some good money. If it's got the earlier generation Seiko Kinetic AGS system, they are worth some money as they are becoming much harder to find in factory condition.
2. Case - If the case has diamonds, hand-made, or other wise an expensive metal, the watch will be worth some money. Having an expensive band doesn't count, because it can be moved from/to most any watch.
3. Name - If it's a highly reputable brand, like Rolex, Tag, Omega, etc, then it will be worth money. However, it needs to be a validated watch based upon the serial number to the manufacturer. So knockoff (fake) Rolexes and Omegas do not count.

To be honest, most watch collectors are looking not so much at the beauty of the watch, but rather the mechanics of the watch. If the watch has a completely hand-made movement, expect it to be worth some serious money.

Since you happened to post this, and I happened to be thinking about about the Tissot

and it seemed like such a coincidence, which means it's a message form God, I decided to get one (as above).

It will make a great casual wear watch. I'll use the Rolex primarily dress.

Should be waiting for me when I get back to the left coast.

Thanks for the push.

I see you are going for the quartz.

Any reason you don't want the auto flavor?

Yeah, the particular style I wanted only came in quartz . . . which is fine for this watch. It's a casual, daily wear thing. Doesn't really matter.

It arrived today:

How are you liking yours? The Tissot really isn't bad at all.

So far, after nine hours or so, it's still working!

Nice watch!

I've had mine since Tuesday, and knock on wood, it is holding up great. I can say that the movement in this watch is about the quietest automatic movements I've ever heard. I've got two watches that have ETA 2824-2 movements and they are loud. But I think my Seiko 7s26A is just as loud. I do love the sound of automatics. I just wish that the watch was a 28,000 BPH versus a 21,600 BPH watch, but it's still a superb movement. Also the power reserve is excellent! The time keeping on it is around +6 seconds a day, which is excellent, compared to my Seiko that runs +18 seconds a day.

I'll post some pics when I get time.

My Rolex is automatic, but I rarely wore a watch as I had no need to, or during periods when I need to I wore it erratically . . . which means it didn't fall or add seconds per day . . . it just stopped and I had to wind it up.

As I have started working again, sort of, I am needing a watch more often, but still will wear erratically, so battery powered is nice as it will pretty much be correct no matter how frequently or infrequently I wear it. Plus, this has the date, (my Rolex doesn't) . . . so I won't be asking people what date it is.

Somewhere along the way I got old(er), so attention to the number of seconds off doesn't matter as much as it used to. If I'm still breathing, then that's a good time, regards of how many seconds off the watch is.

If it turns out this thing drifts, I'll adjust for it. Besides, if I'm late to work, it won't matter. It's my company.

My next watch, if I decide to get another high end watch will be IWC. (Pilot Spitfire) I loves me some IWC, but have no real reason to get one.

Your mentioning of your Seiko model made me wonder what models my Seikos are.

I found one of them. Have not worn it in about 20 years. It's a quartz too, like the Tissot.

Not having worn it for 20 years . . . I'd be afraid to open it up. The battery may have corroded for all I know.

It's pretty beat up. Used to wear it all the time on location.

Back sez it's a 7A38-7180.

I should probably get it cleaned up and refurbished, just for the memories.
