So I picked up a "new" truck

I forgot how much fun it is to be drive in a 4x4 pickup...

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

2003 Lariat FX4 with a 6.0L

Came with new 285/75/16's and the Ranch Hand brush guard. Have a bypass oil setup, bypass coolant setup, new fluids/filters, rev-x, and a MBRP 4" stainless exhaust waiting to be put on hopefully over the weekend. Along with some other general maintenance and checks. It's a high mileage truck, but I worked a good enough deal on it even if I have to drop a few k into it I'll still be happy. Planning doing the EGR delete and SCT tuner beginning of next year(maybe inter-cooler?). Wait until I blow head gaskets then install some ARP studs.

My 04 F-150 should have it's new transmission in a few weeks, can't wait to get back into it. I'm going to retire it as my daily driver and start cleaning it up real good making it my race/show truck.

I've always read on here that you're supposed to turn and run from any idea of buying an 03' 6.0. However, it sure is a nice looking SD, good luck with it.

I don't plan on heavily modding this one...

Just whatever it takes to make it as reliable as possible. Exhaust and inter-cooler will probably be the only "hard" mods done to this truck just to help keep EGT's down. I'm looking to buy a nice 40'+ enclosed car hauler next year for my truck and viper, hence the reason for this purchase.

03's have some flaws that 04 up's don't have, but then it does have some advantages. In general, as long as you take care of them they will go the miles like any other diesel. There isn't much to these engines, and if someone is willing to do the work themselves, they are realistically inexpensive to work on.

You will like that truck and the turbo will whistle nicely when you do the MBRP.

Nice lookin truck. Throw some headstuds on it, black RCD headgaskets, and EGR delete and it'll be solid. No need to upgrade the intercooler, the factory IC is plenty.

Only reason for the inter-cooler is not really for power, but to lower EGT temps quicker. I know on a mostly stock truck people see it as a waste of money, but it's just a little extra insurance. Especially when I pick up a 40'+ car hauler with a living quarters.

This truck has never had the heads off according to the oasis report. So I'll wait on the studs until/if they pop. I'll probably go ahead and purchase some and just have them waiting. I plan on the EGR delete next year after the holidays.

Sweet. That looks oddly similar to my neighbor's old truck. Did you get it in Fort Worth?
