If the above ideas fail, you can try running Windows XP Mode and install the software in the virtual XP world (which will be 32-bit if you choose to use the 32-bit install). Only problem is I'm not 100% sure if the virtual install will be able to take control of the drive if your host OS doesn't seem to recognize it.

Alright I tried this, as soon as I plugged it back it a little window said it was ready to use then the same error screen I've been getting popped up

Here's a screen shot

When I click on the "see what windows can do" option it just waits a minute then nothing happens.

Any ideas?

The WindowsPE thing sounds a bit over my head but I'm willing to give it a shot. Only issue is I don't have any of the original boot disks to create the CD.

Break the drive case open and remove the drive. It's going to be a standard SATA or IDE drive that can be installed internally in a computer or connected with a generic USB adapter. If the password lock is in the case firmware and not in the drive filesystem itself you will have full access. Here's a recommended generic adapter:

That's what I use IDE USB - I don't even know where my case is. Probably in the closet. Thing is One Touch has it's own tiny partition on it's hard drive. So case or no case, it's still one touch software.

He might wanna thro his files on his other machine - to DVD. Since it would be 32 bit. Then transfer to seven via DVD. NoLongerJeepin - You have another machine correct?

Yea, I don't like Seven yet. I have it on the newest Dell, but I still prefer Vista Personally. It's allot faster and everything works lol. The Mac still kicks *** of course lol.

I hope you get it figured out somehow. That link glc provided with that adapter, this one - http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=2020&cat=HDD - Yea, those little adapters are handy as hell. Their cheap, quick and they work without software. I got mine when they first came out, iduno 2002-03 I think. That's all I use.

Windows 7 is still to new for me, - being a 64 bit doesn't help lol. I think MGD posted a little on 64 differences. 64's run 32's, but not always correctly. 32's won't run 64's. There are 64 advantages, if your a gamer or run high end video applications/programs. MGD posted good links to help run down a fix. There's one out there, - can be a PITA chasing one down. I've had the similar problem with seven and had to thro files from the One Touch onto a USB hard drive that 7 would recognized , temporarily, until I did as posted previously. W7 then could read all my drives, - go figure. But, you like computers right lol ?

I do, but it has a virus that rewrote the registry (does that make sense?) so I can't log on. As soon as I try to log on with it, it starts up then immediately logs me off.

Could I do this with the hard drive from my old lap top? The information that's stored on the Maxtor drive is the same info that's on my old lap top (the one with the registry problem)

It's an 80gb SATA 2.5 something 5400 RPM

Hey, can't you start up pressing F9,F8 one of those, depends on the computer, - what system is it ? Boot into start up options and try the "last know configuration that worked" or "Safe Mode"/System restore. You can fix registry problems.

Also, -if you have a boot disk, that usually has a windows repair option.

There's always a way. For XP the best thing to do when/if you get it up and running again, create a boot disk @ http://www.ubcd4win.com/ . Also, if you ever need a good "freeware" app to make life easier, try here - http://www.techsupportalert.com/ .

It's a windows XP computer. It wont let me log on in safe mode, it does the same thing where it logs you out immediately.

I talked to some computer whiz a while ago and they said the only way to fix it was with that BartPE thing-a-ma-jigger. It's a pretty old computer, i'm not really committed to fix it.

If I can get the info off the hard drive I'm going to go office space on the little bastard. There will be fireworks involved, beer will be served.

That's easy, just pull the hard drive from the XP and thro it in your One Touch. With the one touch, you just remove the two Phillips head screws from the back, then the plastic cover plate comes off and the entire tray pulls out. Switch HD's and make sure the HD jumpers are set on "Cable Select". Connect it. Theres a good chance Seven will be able to read that right away, - since your One Touch is locked out on it's own hard drive. The One touch hardware is just a path via USB or Firewire if so equipped. You can thro any hard drive into it. Don't reboot with it plugged in. Depending on boot sequence you comp may try to boot from the XP hd. So, plug the usb cable into seven while it's already up.

Ok, progress has been made, I think...

I read through some of the stuff that MGD posted, one of the forums recommended using the One Touch 4 lite software. I downloaded this and it doesn't crash, however it says something about creating a partition. When I try to do that, It says I have to format the drive which will erase everything.... WTH?!

Here's a screen shot of what comes up

Thanks for the continued help guys

On a side note, I took the SATA drive out of the old lap top, and took it to best buy, they sold me some connector that was supposed to allow me to access it, however it doesn't clip into the SATA drive. It looks like they're both female connectors

Well when you get the right cable you can always boot up with a Linux Live CD and recover the info that way.

Here's something that might work if best buy can't accommodate your needs:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-002-_-Product

You can get similar setups from Walmart i believe.
