Atomic Apology to Japan?
High end of the casualty estimates was tens of millions of Japanese civilains, and 1 million+ in the Allied service.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Downfall
According to the link, the US Government had 500,000 purple hearts manufactured for the invasion. As of 2003, we still had 120,000 left on the shelf.
The world is very fortunate the Japanese surrendered. They would not have surrendered without our use of the atomic bomb. IMO, to apologize for its necessary use is to show a profound ignorance of history.
Dear Japan,
We're sorry... that FDR's foreknowledge of your attack was not shared with the US forces at pearl harbor. If FDR had shared this information millions of lives would have been spared, but our government wanted war with you.
Yours,
America.
Since World War II many people have suspected that Washington knew the attack was coming. Extraordinary number of documents attained through Freedom of Information Act suggests that FDR had a foreknowledge of the Pearl Harbor attack. There is proof that the Navy intercepted 83 messages, (83) and cracked the codes that Japan's Admiral Yamamoto sent his carriers.
Cables of decryption messages that the military was intercepting, clearly showed that Japanese ships were preparing for war and heading straight for Hawaii. Weeks before December 7th, radio messages were sent to a group of Japanese warships to attack pearl harbor.
Part of the message read:
...the task force, keeping its movements strictly secret and maintaining close guard against submarines and aircraft, shall advance into Hawaiian waters, and upon the very opening of hostilities shall attack the main force of the United States fleet in Hawaii and deal it a mortal blow...
I understand that "a closed mind is a wonderful thing to lose", that government conspiracies can’t possibly happen, but I guarantee that Day Of Deceit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Day_of_Deceit a well documented book could prove otherwise. Stinnett makes a convincing case that the highest officials of the government fooled and deceived millions of Americans about one of the most important days in the history of the country.

Here we go again.
The topic is the Atomic Bomb, not Pearl Harbor.
Focus, man.
Go ahead and start new threads about how FDR killed millions by letting the Japanese attack us on 12/07/41, and how 9/11 was an inside job. I know you want to.

shotgun!
Even if you think we were at fault for dropping the first a-bomb (which we were not). Wouldn't the Japs only have themselves to blame for not surrendering right away and making us drop a second a-bomb?
Just sayin!
Just sayin!
Sorry, my apologies "especial" to YOU dirt.
No one in this entire world but the US of A needs atomic bombs in order to remain the "chosen" country "One Nation Under God".
Casualty esimates varied widely. Even the lowest end of the range makes Viet Nam look like a cakewalk.

Population growth needs to be reversed; I strongly suggest that the US drop couple more atomic bombs into Japan, and any other country that posses a threat to "God's Chosen Country".
Love to watch how the enemy, on this video re-enactment, gets pulverized by our atomic bomb, that would be so cool to watch in person. ((((((((((BOOM))))))))))) now that right there was beautiful lemme tell you, we are winners!!!

Still unproven after all these years. Wonder why?
Let's presume FDR knew about the attack and let's presume we were prepared on December 7, 1941. Don't you think the outcome would have been the same? I do. If not for the U.S.'s involvement, once the ****'s took over Europe and the Japanese took over China, do you think the U.S. was safe? We are the one's that would have been ultimately bombed into oblivion.
You do realize there were some 10 official U.S. Government investigations into this very allegation; the inquiry by Secretary of the Navy Frank Knox (1941), the Roberts Commission (1941–42), the Hart Inquiry (1944), the Army Pearl Harbor Board (1944), the Naval Court of Inquiry (1944), the Hewitt investigation, the Clarke investigation, the Congressional Inquiry (1945–46) and the top-secret inquiry by Secretary of War Henry L. Stimson, authorized by Congress and carried out by Henry Clausen (the Clausen Inquiry; 1946). The tenth inquiry, the Thurmond-Spence Hearing, took place in April 1995.
All ten reported incompetence, underestimation and misapprehension of Japanese capabilities and intentions, problems resulting from excessive secrecy about cryptography, division of responsibility between Army and Navy (and lack of consultation between them), and lack of adequate manpower for intelligence (analysis, collection, processing). Sounds like the same level of cooperation between government agencies that was going on 9/11/2001. Oh wait, we knew about that one too, and let it happen.

You right, the topic is specifically about the atomic bomb, not about apologizing for the killing of millions of people due to FDR withholding vital information that would have prevented the attack at pear harbor and triggering the US to drop the automatic bombs.
Sorry, my apologies "especial" to YOU dirt.

Sorry dirt but I must disagree with you, the ruler is king; Japan should have never surrendered. If they have never surrendered the Japanese would have been extinct and there would have been no need for apologies. Oops sorry I keep forgetting, this is about the atomic bomb not atomic apology.
Population growth needs to be reversed; I strongly suggest that the US drop couple more atomic bombs into Japan, and any other country that posses a threat to "God's Chosen Country".

Biggest fly in the ointment about FDR knowing that the Japanese were going to attack Pearl was that the Pacific Fleet wasn't moved there until July 1941, five months before the attack. The Fleet was moved there because of Japanese involvement in the invasion of French Indochina after France fell to the Germans. You also have to remember that no airplane had ever launched torpedoes in a shallow water anchorage until the Germans did it. The Japanese just copied what the Germans had done but as far as our military goes the harbor was thought to be torpedo proof. Obviously, it wasn't.
I had an Uncle that lived to tell about Pearl Harbor. He was a very colorful individual and I sure miss him. His biggest regret about WWII in the Pacific is that any Japanese lived. He was all for using the atomic bombs until that part of the world glowed. Amazing the differences between those who were there and those who are sitting in their easy chairs thinking up this crap.

I withdrew my statement, apologized and agreed that the US needs to blow up anyone who disagrees that this is "God's chosen Nation".
How does that statement go? "you either with us or against us."
