blue ray dvd problem! "the fourth kind"
I cannot for the life of me get "the fourth kind" to play on my blue ray player. I can go through all the set up menu's, skip ahead chapters, but it always returns to the beginning "loop" of teaser footage, and won't play. I've turned it off and on, changed discs "Iron Man" works fine. I took disc back to the video place, gave me a different one, and it does the exact same thing. Is there some new thing on this disc that I have to contend with?
Yeah, most likely a firmware issue. I chatted with a tech from AT&T about TV and where it's going last Thursday. I don't have a current TV anymore and so I don't have any TV at home. But, he said that the current Blue Ray is going to be out dated in less than 5 years. The newer TVs will be a 1450P and those will be upgraded to 1800P shortly after the 1450's are introduced. He said that a lot of the programs are getting ready to make the move to 3D as well. You'll need to buy the glasses to view it though. Those that he saw were battery operated and had a switch on them for watching 3D and then you could flip the switch to normal vision. Said that the 3D he looked at was incredible. All of this will fall over to the Blue Ray and other junk coming out. But I think I'll remain off the TV bug. I have a dim view of sitting in front of a light bulb for entertainment. For the price of the TV, satellite, Blue Ray, stereo components, miles of cables, I can do my internet watching movies or any TV program when I want to see it, not when it comes on.
Yes, a higher-def high def is currently being worked on, and it is UHD (Ultra High Definition). It takes 1920 x 1080 and has four times the resolution with 3840 x 2160. Unfortunately there are bandwidth and storage issues that will need to be resolved first.
The first step may actually be 2048 x 1080 to match the 2K digital films currently being released like Avatar. 3D is the main focus for manufacturers at the moment.

My blu ray player has an ethernet jack in the back and I just hooked it up to the internet and ran through the menu till I found the software updates and load the new ones in. Hope it works for you.
Thanks, firmware likely the issue. My player , (Panasonic dmp-bd60)
currently is on version 1.1 and I just downloaded version 2.3
I will have to burn cd with the file and load it onto my player. I'm not a computer literate person at all, so hopefully I can get this to work. Seems like I read something about it not working with Vista though. How do I get around that???

I read the manual - all you need is a CD burning program that will burn it as ISO-9660 without Joliet. Even with Vista, I think the builtin CD burning wizard should work fine.

However, I also see that you can connect the player to your Internet router with an Ethernet cable and automatically download updates directly.

Other decent software that is not free, but not loaded with all kinds of other crap is Cyberlink Power 2 Go, which is what I ended up with.
