my thoughts on Memorial Day

as Memorial Day approaches every year, I encourage people to not just think of it as a day off work (for most people) but as to what the day is really for...

not only would I like to say thank you to every gold star family

but I would also like to pass personal condolences to the Karol, Coutu, Hines, Atkins, Butler, Tollefson, Hudson, Kennard, McCoy, Soenksen, Bobb and Joshua, Montoya, Williams and Rudzinski familes for their losses

Couldn't agree more Jerame, and thank you for your service.

"Happy" is not quite the operative word here for what this date is all about. "Somber", "Reflective", "Thoughtful", "Prayerful", "Thankful", "Grateful", might be more appropriate for a day to honor those who "Gave the last full measure of devotion".

But, how many of us really think about what some of our holidays are actually about? And, I'm as guilty as the rest. :o

So, thank you tarajerame, for your reminder.

- Jack

Good post Jerame, -

I have never been able to think of the day as one of mourning; I have never quite been able to feel that half-masted flags were appropriate on Decoration Day. I have rather felt that the flag should be at the peak, because those whose dying we commemorate rejoiced in seeing it where their valor placed it. We honor them in a joyous, thankful, triumphant commemoration of what they did.

For those Men and Women, I have the highest respect.

Real, he never mentioned any heros at any particular site. I am deleting your posts in this thread as they are not pertinent to the subject and are as accused, thread crapping. There is another thread where your comments have already been discussed and been argued. Post there if you feel youhave something new to say. Leave this thread to honor the military men and women as it was intended.
