Dings from shopping carts in parking lost
Last sunday, I went to the grocery store and parked relatively far from the front of the store to avoid any kind of damage to my Truck(F150 Crew). When I came back to my truck, I noticed two freaking!! dings from shopping carts. It pisses me off that people can't return the carts to the cart returns. Over the course of the week, it just irritated me to look at the dings, so this past weekend, I went back to the grocery store and talked to the manager. He took my information and pictures of the damage so that he can write a report up.
Has anyone had any experience or precedent in receiving compensation for damage done to your truck?

Funny thing is, if the store doesn't own the property they are not liable (The property management group would be). Anything done for you is on the good faith of the store in you as a customer. That being said, it's odd to have two carts against your truck much less have one hit it twice (unless they were real close togather). Sounds like you were targeted and I'd ask about cameras in the parking lot. Sorry this happened. Good luck
I always park a LONG way from anyone. Went into Sam's one windy day, came out and a cart was up against my rear bumper. Two dents in the tailgate. Someday, I'll go by a paintless dent repair and get it fixed for about $75.

Yall should try dry ice, I've heard it works well. I was trying to remove a dent from my gf's car and I couldn't find any dry ice, so I got a can of compressed air, turned it upside down, and sprayed it on the dent. It was a pretty nasty ding (paint chipped) but I got rid of about 75% of it. Just make sure its a pretty warm/hot day when doing this.
I figured dings were caused by careless idiots, of which there are too many.
I thought you just had to deal with it as one of life's little hazards.
Never occurred to me to make the store pay for my misfortune/someone else's carelessness.

I work at a medical center where they have wheelchairs for people to use. Lazy inconsiderate people leave the wheelchairs in the parking lots all the time. When the wind kicks up you see them rolling through the parking lot and hitting cars.

Sometimes I think that's worse. Some people hate people who have nice stuff and lash out. I was purposely parked away from *everyone* and someone keyed both sides of the car, six entire panels.
No shopping carts involved.
I agree with dirt bike dave though.

One time some A'hole left their cart right up against my passenger door, I got in my truck and was turning as I backed out and that F'er ran right down the side of my truck. I was so pissed!
I was at Junk-Mart aka wal-mart the other day, I think they brought in extra carts that day because all the cart returns were full, there were carts parked all the way around them, there wasn't hardly anyone at the store, and they still had some carts inside which amazed me the way the parking lot looked.
now that's a thought...lol I usually park far enough away but 2 days ago some idiot hit one of my steps on my expy... I guess 11" of lift and 37s still isnt enough protection but looking at the direction they hit my step they had to hit my rear tire so hopefully they got more damage than I got.... or next plan is find a old pick-up and park next to everyone and swing the door open without any care like 99% of other people do and then walk away like nothing happend because I don't have a nice vehicle... sorry to rant but reading this and looking at my steps it pisses me off that people are so careless...
UPDATE:
I actually got money from the grocery store's insurance company. YES, you are reading that right. I too, am a little surprised. The supring thing was, it was rather painless. I can't go into it any further, but If you are ever in my situation, Be NICE and talk to the manager on duty and have him take pictures with the cart next to your truck.
Your verbiage on the report and to their insurance company has to be such that explaining why the carts were rolling around the parking lot.
