Oh wow that's unfortunate...I had never seen the video before, I had to see the slow motion to figure out that was an extended cab

Don't even have a crash video for my truck. I guess that makes it better than them all.

I wouldn't and I know...I was in a rearender about 6 weeks ago now and also have (well had) a full grill guard on my 2000 ext cab and both of my air bags went off at the exact same time. The stupid part on mine is that it was at a speed under 30mph and they still went off and I never came close to touching the thing with my face, the seatbelts worked fine too....man that airbag pyro gas stuff stinks. As far as the crash video on these trucks Ford got a lot of flack because of the cab collapsing like that and is why the 04 and newer ones will not do that.

I don't think that the brushguard caused it. The airbags are designed to go or don't go. There should never be a delay, as far as I know.

If there's a brush guard there can be a delay. The extra material between the guard and the truck is the difference.

That's how I got my upgrade, I showed this video to my wife, and asked for her opinion.

I'm certainly no crash expert, but it is the front of the cab collapsing. I see now reason why the design of the back of the cab will change that any more than the length of the box, though you could make the argument that more weight results in more collapsing.

On the supercab there is no b pillar for support. That's where most of the horrible damage is. Opens up like a can, as we can see.

I could believe that by having a brushguard on your truck may cause a millisecond delay in airbag deployment, but not the several second delay of which I encountered on the passengers side only.

At least you're alive to share with us. That's all that matters.

I love my truck but after seeing those crash tests, I am going to look seriously at purchasing a later model. I would rather run my 2000 'til the wheels fall off, but I do a fair amount of highway driving and survival is high on my list of things to do.CRAP

I'd feel safe driving mostly highway in one of those. It's the 2 lane back roads that would raise a flag...

I'll have to keep that video in mind when I plan on hitting a giant immobile block in the middle of the road.
