Dear Automatic Transmission:
It's all personal preference. Shoving a manual down everyone's throat, which is what this guy is doing, is getting VERY annoying. However, this works both ways, folks. I don't particularly care for those of you that are on the automatic soapbox either. I plan on running my manual truck till it dies, then figure out what to do at that time. As already stated, there's a lot more to the discontinuing of manuals than just low demand. Do I like it? Nope. Is it worth making a big fuss over? Nope. Has my manual been trouble free? Yep, but I can't say the same thing about the clutch, the leaky internal slave cylinder is a terrible design and pilot bearings don't last.
Trucks evolved from work trucks to "urban assault vehicles": heated and air conditioned leather captains chairs, DVD navigation, etc.
My car has a great tranny. 4 speed top loader.. Driving that thing is allot of fun its also a bit of a workout in stop and go traffic. I love the automatic transmissions in my other rigs though. My deceased brother in-law loved the manual tranny bought a chevy 1/2 ton truck and converted it to manual from auto. Dumb I thought. I dont know.. in the right machine they have there place. I'm secure enough to let my gears be shifted for me though..
Interesting...
First, I'd like to appologize if it hurt anyones feelings. You can drive what you want.
But in all seriousness, why should the ones who want to drive manual be discriminated upon? Are we all that bad? Envious?
I know how the feds are trying to mandate emissions standards and stuff, but it's been proven using math that manuals are in fact better.
However, I know the real issues:
1. Having only 1 option cuts cost for manufacturers.
2. Fools the government into thinking that they doing good for the planet.
3. Allows more people to drive, which in turn boost profits from the local DMVs.
4. Since there are more people driving, especially ones that shouldn't be driving, the insurance companies, law enforcment agencies, etc are booming.
5. Since there are more people driving out on the road that shouldn't be driving, more people get killed.
6. Since there are more cars, there is more pollution.
7. People in America are lazy and would rather dress themselves while driving.
Do you see the vicious cycle?
I can keep going, and going.
You go to Europe... what do they mostly drive? Manuals. Why?
I know... because they are inferior to us Americans. Wrong.
The government spent the time and effort to ensure people get the options. Not to mention, Europe is already eco friendly because they tax on the size of engine and type of transmission.
In reality, the only way to control the fuel hunger we've got in America is to down size.... yep you heard me, down size! Look at the pick up trucks for example... who the heck needs a 300+ hp pickup truck to pull a dinky trailer? No one... because if you turn the hands of time and look, you'll notice that your grandfather was happy with his 165 hp pick up truck hauling twice the amount of weight with no problems.
But what's the problem? Fringing upon people's rights. But yet, it's ok to discriminate on people who prefer to drive manuals and most will stand there laughing or not saying a word at all.
It's also interesting how so many get upset over a little thread about a transmission.
If you don't like it, move on... don't post useless posts because you don't like manual transmissions.

Europe is seeing the tide change from manual to auto even with this so called "education" they've had from their government. The only exception are the high end supercars and even the majority of them use a "manumatic" if you will. They have paddle shifters behind the steering wheel to upshift/downshift. Why? Because it makes it easier to control the car if you can keep both hands on the wheel.
Manuals were offered right alongside automatics in North America for decades. The buying public told the manufacturers what they wanted, not the other way around.
If you start a thread like this you'll have to take the good with the bad. If you can't handle that then don't start the thread.
For the love of God, don't start the thread!!
I have a 5-speed in my Mustang and love it, but I couldn't think of anything I could want less in my daily driver than a manual transmission! Put it in "D", crack open a nice cold drink, find some good tunes on the radio and head off down the highway!
Regarding the original post -- anyone who has that much time to write a letter to an automatic transmission needs to get a life.....

It's discrimination any way you slice it.
I can handle the good with the bad... but I really need to publicly vent.
I know I'm going to SOOO regret asking this but, just how are the manufacturers discriminating against people by not offering manual transmissions?
