Tom Hanks Unhinged?
Too bad Hanks thinks this way. I always thought he had at least
somewhat of a proper angle on WWII history, especially after he made
Saving Private Ryan. Perhaps I wrongly assumed that he did
not have this lurking revisionist-politically-correct-we're-all-to-blame-we-were-really-not-any-better-than-the *****-or-Japanese derangement syndrome that a lot of the hard left camp seems to have. Unfortunately, he appears to be just a notch above Sean Penn and Matt Daaaaamon. Which certainly isn't saying much.

I think that what it's people like Hanks that should alert us to the fact that we need to put more effort into preserving our history. Our soap box isn't in front of a camera so we have to reach the people we can in our little sphere of our friends and family.
It doesn't matter what he says any more than it matters what you or I say. People shouldn't care any more what an actor, or any celeberty says, any more than they care what you or I say. The thing is, unlike you and I, these people have a soap box infront of a camera. They are in a position to influence people who are ripe for influencing. It is sad, but true. We need to seek out the few who's message is verifyable.

Your right but the sad truth is people DO care about what he says.. People do listen to celebrities... Why do you think people go out and buy smart cars... Because they hear one of the actors talking about it and of course they have to follow suit and get one too..
I like tom hanks as an actor.. He makes great movies... I don't know him personally so I can't comment on how he is day to day...

"A quick bit of googling for the context of this quotation showed me exactly what I expected about Hanks’s remarks. To be sure, they are blunt and imprecise, and that is regrettable. Nonetheless, here are the words that precede the above-quoted language:
“From the outset, we wanted to make people wonder how our troops can re-enter society in the first place. How could they just pick up their lives and get on with the rest of us?”
My initial suspicion upon reading Hanks’s words was that, as an actor who has played many solider roles, he was referring to the “Other” of our enemies in wartime. Sure enough, this quotation proves to be not some geopolitical comment about the Clash of Civilizations based on race, the history of the first World War, or anything like it, but instead a commentary on the dehumanizing of the enemy that occurs when one fights in a war. If anyone needs evidence of that I would be more than happy to provide it, but I think this concept is largely self-evident and may stand on its own.
This blog post is certainly historically accurate and well thought-out — and revealing of its author’s biases. It reads a narrow comment in far too broad a manner (or rather, it neglects the comment’s context). As a once-upon-a-time English major, I certainly know the feeling."

I always thought he was a good actor but I'm starting to think he's a moron.I LMAO a couple weeks ago when he was on the Regis and Kelly Show.He mistakingly called Kelly Rippa, Kathie Lee. Kelly Rippa ripped Tom a new A-hole and let him know that she's been on the show for 9 years.
Out of context? Oh really?
Well let me take more out of context then.
Anyone can read the entire interview and decide for themselves if something has been taken out of context or not. Page 4 for the paragraph in question.

There's no such thing as a definitive history. But what was once a passing interest for Hanks has become an obsession. He's a man on a mission to make our back pages come alive, to keep overhauling the history we know and, in the process, get us to understand not just the past but the choices we make today.

He thinks that Americans defending ourselves have the same motives as our attackers.
He thinks we want to anihilate our enemies the way they want to anihilate us ...
the obvious fact is that we just want to ddefend ourselves.
We never "occupy" a country ... we only help.
Just think of where this world would be without the "saving grace" of America.
THAT is what Tom Hanks and his ilk miss.
I'm so sad to learn that Hanks is just another cowardly liberal ...
who likes to RE-WRITE history to fit their anti-American views.

The TIME article?
It's a good read and worth the 5 minutes.
I have to laugh when the "holier than thou" conservatives attack real people making real movies because it offends their view of history. LOL!
