craigslist
We sold: my mom's boat, my old dinning set, a propane shop heater and a wood lathe...We bought: our tractor, a front loading washer and dryer, an extension ladder, a hand truck, a refrigerator, a set of wheels and tires for our Ranger pickup and some chickens. No problems with any of the transactions. A few scammers but if you know what to watch for (and there is plenty of info out there that helps you decide what to avoid) you can deal with them. We never take a check when selling and never send cash when buying. We always deal in cash, person to person to avoid being duped.
bigun72, most people won't leave a phone number because of the scams. Email's are easy to delete if you feel the person is running a scam. I won't put my number on there, too many weirdo's. In fact I won't give them a phone number until they have decided to come look at the object, I want to be sure they're legit! If they don't want to deal through emails, they can move along to the next person.

I havent done too bad on craigslist, yes ive had plenty of scams, but ive bought 3 baja claw tires with 1/2 tread for $75 bucks, $600 set of rims for $250(from a local cop), another set of rims and tires I traded a programmer for, head lights, and tails. And ive sold god knows how many things on there. Some of it maybe bad on craigslist but when you really find a good deal, Its awsome

Have used CL to sell, I've never bought anything. What is consistent ime over the long period is the low-baller. For the most part it is numb nut zombies out there trying to buy the item at a super low price just to resell it. Then you have the numb nut that really wants the item, but can't afford it telling me that I'm $200 high on a $205 purchase price. Happens with everything everytime - from photo gear to furniture.
eBay when possible, is the only way to avoid the numb nut low-baller.

ebay is full of them too! i had a PS2 and 5 or 6 games i had listed for like 40 bucks just because i wanted to get rid of it, and i got an email everyday from someone in a foreign country wanting me to give them my account number so they could wire me the 5 or 6 hundred dollars they wanted to pay for the thing.
word to the wise...DO NOT LIST YOUR CELL PHONE NUMBER. Listed my old system on CL, next thing I know, I have high school kids calling me at 11-12 at night interested in it!! Took it all off CL now which is the reason it's still sitting in my garage, but at least i get to sleep at night....The only reason I had the crap on CL in the first place was to not deal with shipping, but it's still a hassle playing phone/e mail tag, much easier to sell stuff on the forum here....
I currently have my four wheeler for sale on craigslist. So far i've gotten one phone call and this email regarding the ad. The phone call was legit but this email is an example of the stupid crap i've received in past ads.
Gday,
saw the AD you posted on craigslist and I'm very interested in purchasing your motorcycle. Firstly I want to make sure its the same model that my son is after. It's his birthday coming up and I want to make it a surprise for him. I'm a single mom and obviously know nothing about scooters or motorcycles (lol). Anyways here is a video that I copied from my son's computer VID1 (if not work try VID2).. Can you please confirm its the same type and reply to me ASAP. I'm willing to pay couple hundred more then what youre asking for as long the motorcycle matches the video description and you can reserve it for me.
Cheers!
Sonya.

TV station here in Salt Lake has the best local ads CL is a distant 2nd. I've bought lots of stuff on the internet. 2 Mustangs a couple of tucks. Sold things and all. Just gotta use common sense and remember there are those out there who want to screw you over.
We get it, but deal and steal are not the same thing. I don't sell much there (I throw junk away.), but when you go there with really good stuff, asking half of what it would cost to buy it new, and some jaggoff offers you a third of that and acts like you're trying to take advantage of him when you don't accept... It's ridiculous... And too common.
i love craigslist.....i have a problem everyonce in a while but i let it go, i bought my last 2 trucks on craigslist, including my current truck...ive sol so much stuff on it i love it yeah the spanning is getting out of countrol but their is nothing we can do about it...some people are just complete *******s
