Trouble sleeping?

Anyone have trouble sleeping? I am currently on about 25hours straight no sleep. I do feel tired but I can't get my mind to shut off, ive tried everything. The doc at the VA wanted me to take some Ambien tablets home but I have read some horrible storys about that stuff.

IS there anyone else out there who takes sleep aids? If so what is it, and are they worth a crap? I don't want to be in rehab just because I can't sleep.

I have trouble sleeping too. I get at MOST 3 hours of sleep a night. It's been like this for about 8 months now. I've tried Melatonin but it doesn't help. I haven't seen a Dr. though so I'm not real sure what the problem is.
Last week though I turned my radio on before I went to bed and it helped relax me and I did fall asleep faster and woke up feeling better than I have for a while.

I buy the generic sleep aid a wal mart, I'm asleep in about 20 minutes. No side effects, no addiction. Works good. and cheap

i had back surgery and was given large amount of oxy. i stopped taking it after a couple months and went into severe with drawls and was not able to sleep. as a result of that i was given ambien and some other drugs to help. i continued the ambien because of inability to sleep. the ambien got me 5 to 6 hours of sleep. when i tried to get off the ambien i experienced what they call rebound insomnia. i also had shakes and sweats along with my legs constantly moving. i would not reccomend the ambien. what you might try is over the counter benadryl tabs. that works without risk.

Ambien works well. I think most of horror stories and strange things you hear people do on Ambien is mostly because they take it and try to fight the effects or otherwise don't go immediately to bed after taking it.

Me? I drink. Heavily. I sleep well.

(disclaimer - no, I don't, I'm trying to be humorous, don't flame me for promoting alcoholism or anything crazy like that.)

I have the same problems with not being able to turn it off. My Dr. has me on trazadone. I take it about an hour before bedtime and good night irene. It is not habit forming and I have suffered no side effects from it and have been on it for over a year. Its on the $4 list at the drug stores.

that is how it is abused. do a search on ambien withdrawls or how do i get off ambien. since my experience i have talked to others that did not abuse it and refuse to take it again. thing with any drugs is the side effect. some people are more prone to it than others.

i am going back to drinking as soon as i can.

Same here, Nyquil doesn't really do anything to me either.

Only time I have trouble falling asleep is if I sleep during the day. But I've been running 3-a-days +, so sleeping is no problem for me.

Do you do any physical activity during the day. Gym, cardio, anything? If not, try that. I don't see how anyone could not sleep when they are physically exhausted from working out.

Stay away from Ambien. 3 people at work are hooked on that stuff. Couldn't stop if they wanted to. One of them is seriously hooked, he's gonna need rehab to stop. If he runs out, he's not sleeping more then a couple hours over 3 day period. He also has to take more then one for it to work. Another guy can sleep fine with one. He doesn't have to take them everyday, but pretty often, and when he doesn't have any, he has to drink about 1/2 a bottle of Robitussin DM to fall asleep. The other guy isn't as hooked. But, he is also an alcoholic, so, he usually will just drink until he passes out anyway. Bad stuff man, try some of those natural sleep aids first before you start taking OTCs. Just because it is OTC, it is not good to continually take it to fall asleep.

I have tried that a few times. For me, it seamed to work better than the sleep aid.
